Playground System for Children with Autism
Donation protected
We are Team #10 from LSU's Mechanical Engineering Capstone Program. In order to receive our degrees, we have been fortunately tasked with designing, manufacturing, and delivering a play system at St. Lillian Academy!
St. Lillian Academy (https://stlillian.org/) is a private, Christian school located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, that specializes in educating children with communication and learning challenges. Children on the autistic spectrum have different play interests than typical children their age. This poses an issue for the faculty and staff of St. Lillian Academy because the students lose interest in standard play practices and their desires cannot be communicated clearly. St. Lillian has requested an interchangeable panel play system to be installed in their playground; the panels should have repeatable functions and attractive textures and imagery that suit the unique play needs of children on the Autistic spectrum, which can be identified and supported by research and observations, while prioritizing their safety as users.
We thank everyone for their support and St. Lillian Academy for giving us this opportunity!
Best regards,
Team #10: Abigail Childress, Cameron Frazier, and Erin Rodehorst
