Plea for Parvo Puppies

Donation protected

My husband and I are retired schoolteachers, and last year after a lifetime of helping animals in a county with no animal shelter, I started my own rescue - Yellow Rabbit Animal Rescue, named after the creek we live near. In the last 12 months,  with the help of transport partners, we have placed 300 animals.

When these animals come into our care, we view it as our responsibility and our mission to provide the best possible outcome for them.

Several weeks ago we took in a litter of hound mix puppies which, like most of the animals we take in, came to us unvaccinated, malnourished, and heavily parasitized. We immediately started them on the protocol which is recommended by the veterinary school and our local veterinarians. Unfortunately, the vaccines came too late for these puppies.

Sunday morning, I realized Declan was very sick. I've seen the look before and immediately suspected parvo. I called the emergency vet and met him at the clinic. The test was positive for parvo, and Declan was admitted.

That afternoon, five more puppies showed signs of parvo. Another emergency call and five more admittances - JP, Caroline, Colton, Dominic, and Charlie. At that point three were serious. By Monday morning, all six puppies had deteriorated and were receiving full blown parvo treatment.

Two more puppies, Cecilia and Claudia, were subsequently admitted at our regular vet clinic and are on IVs. They're being monitored closely.

Sadly, we lost JP on Tuesday night and Colton on Wednesday night, but the others are holding on and have an optimistic chance of recovery with appropriate medical care.

Unfortunately, the cost of treatment is almost $800 a day for both clinics, and they may be hospitalized for another week. The emergency vet bill alone was almost $2600 as of Wednesday morning.

Like most rescues, we receive no municipal,  state, or Federal funding.

While we are grateful to receive occasional donations, the majority of the funding comes from my retirement funds. It's a struggle just to cover routine vetting expenses when so many need help, but this outbreak will result in a very large vet bill before they can released from the hospital.

If you could help, it would be tremendously appreciated. For some unknown reason, GoFundMe isn't pulling up my charitable status so I'm including pictures of my paperwork here to verify that we are a tax exempt organization and eligible to receive tax deductible bequests.

Thank you so much for taking the time to consider our request!
