Pleas to help Opal

Donation protected
On August 24, 2019 our family was devastated by the news of an attack on my mother.

She was called on the access control system phone of the condo building she lived in in Lower Queen Anne.  The person on the other end of the phone said they had a package that she needed to sign for and they needed her to come to the lobby to do so.  When she got the lobby, she opened the door for a person posed as a flower delivery person.  He was anything but.  He asked my mother if she was the Opal Scott that worked at CenturyLink Field to which she answered “yes.”  What happened next continues to haunt our family to this day.  The delivery person gave my mother a message that indicated he was sent by a former employee then he savagely beat my mother.  When he was done beating her, he sprayed her in the face with mace. She was beaten so badly that her right orbital bone was broken.  She now has PTSD, depression, anxiety, a traumatic brain injury that is affecting her recall of words and thoughts and nightmares that at times have been on constant playback in her head.  Because of the orbital break she had to undergo reconstructive surgery that she needs 6 weeks of recovery for.

My mother has been through hell and needs help for her medical recovery.  My mother is the Director of Concessions for a very popular professional football team in the Pacific North West, she’s dedicated, driven and committed to what she does and her staff, however that employer put her in harm’s way when they hired a person that was once a temp worker that  previously threatened her.  She initially reported the threats to the team and thought things would be ok because the person was placed on a Do Not Return list.  To her surprise 10 months later the team hired this person on her staff.  She begged and pleaded for her employer not to allow the hiring to happen, but the team hired them anyway.  After the person was fired less than a month later they took it out on my mom because she was who they attributed to their being fired.  This is what I believe and the only thing that makes sense. The flower delivery person told my mother as he was beating here that he was doing this for the employee that had been fired 5 days before her beating.

So now we’re here.  My mother hasn’t been able to work since the attack as she’s been struggling to make any sense of what’s happening around her.  While she is still employed by the football team they have only ever responded to text and emails from her, she hasn’t received a single call from them to even ask her how she’s doing, they stopped paying her almost immediately and emailed her this past Friday to tell her they will no longer be paying for her medical benefits as of Friday, November 15, 2019. So not only did they put my mother in harms way, not show any compassion but now they’re cutting off her ability to have the medical attention she needs.  They are the reason she’s ailing and in hiding and now they are pouring fuel on the fire and are cutting her benefits off.

With all of this and the humblest and most grateful appeal I ask for your help.  Would you please dig into your hearts, pockets, wallets or purses and help my mother through her recovery so she can heal and return to what her new normal will be?  Every little bit will help.  Her needs are for medical appointments, recovery and possible additional surgeries.  She’s on a lot of medications and has doctors appointments several times a week.  She has exhausted all of her savings and cannot return to work before January.  Her stories has been running on Washington’s Most Wanted and we pray daily that the assailants are brought to justice, but our biggest prayer is for our mother to fully recovery, become whole again and get back to being herself and the mom that has given so much to so many. Thank you so much for reading this post.

Sincerely,
Moriah
