Team Jaxon-a Journey of Hope

Meet Jaxon Bennett. Jaxon is 12 years old. He loves to play electric guitar and basketball. A member of Temple Baptist, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Jaxon spends all of his free time playing basketball with his friends. Actually, Jaxon will ball with anyone. He just loves to play! He loves God, loves his Mom(Gloria) and Dad(Josh), his sister(Lexy), and the family dog, Champ. If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Jaxon, you know that he, and surely God, both have big plans for Jaxon’s life.

Jaxon was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer on September 22nd after he found a large lump in his neck. Jaxon needs his entire thyroid removed, along with about 100 or more lymph nodes. He is scheduled for surgery at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston on October 26th. The surgery will take 7 to 8 hours and Jaxon will have to remain in the hospital for about a week following the surgery. His family will have to remain at the hospital, some six hours from home, as well.

Jaxon’s family remains faithful and they are truly grateful that Jaxon will be cared for by the exceptional providers at MD Anderson. But they need help! The family’s home was destroyed by a fire in August and they have been living in a temporary home, working to rebuild and replace everything that was destroyed by the fire, including their vehicles. Thankfully, the family has health insurance, but they still have a tremendous financial burden to overcome. Their up-front costs include the deductible, travel expenses, lodging, and meals. Since Jaxon is so young, he will also need long term care and monitoring.

When asked about Jaxon’s favorite basketball team, his mom, Gloria replied, “He tells us all the time that he just can’t chose. This is actually an ongoing thing in our house because he loves the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, but for some reason the Lakers are on the top because he says Kobe was the best.” Please help our family get Jaxon back on the basketball court, playing the game he loves!
