Cara Fay is an incredibly intelligent, funny and kind soul. She is the manager of The Thinking Cup, a North end coffee/specialty shop. Cara has a very large and loving group of family and friends. Just after high school she joined AmeriCorps, where she lost much of her eyesight due to a parasite where she was stationed. She has grown and changed over the years but there are some things about her that most people should be able to say they know about her. She has a deep love for her cat, art, cooking and travel. Cara loves to lay outside by a pool and listen to nature. She also likes to read a good book and watch Netflix.

Some of you may know Cara and what is going on in her life right now, but for those who don't I would like to let you in on a glimpse of her life recently.

Shortly before Christmas she was suffering with what we thought was a bad case of pneumonia. Christmas came and went and her coughing was so bad that it began causing some severe pain. Cara ended up going into the hospital for treatment of the pneumonia. After being transferred to a couple of different hospitals the doctors found that Cara had broken ribs from coughing, a collapsed lung and pleurisy. They ran some tests and found malignant tumors on her breast, spine, lung, liver etc.

At that point they felt the cancer started in her breast and had spread to her lungs. Which is what presented her with the constant cough and fluid build up, looking like pneumonia. It was in her lungs, spine and liver and had metastasized spreading quickly. The Doctors took a biopsy of her breast and said from the imaging that came back they were were confident that what they saw was true. At this point it is just a waiting game to hear some kind of treatment plan based on the results on the biopsy.

We recently found out that this aggressive Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer and it on lots of other organs, including bones. Since Christmas Cara has been admitted in the hospital more days than she's been home. She started a new treatment and unfortunately coded on a new dose of that medication. At this point Cara's biggest concern is starting chemo while trying to support her family.

We will keep you all posted with updates as we get them.

What happens now? How do we help?

Cara lives and shares expenses with her retired parents, who are both in declining health. With the loss of Cara's income, as you would expect, bills will begin to pile up. If you are able to donate here that money will aid with relief towards her lost income, medical expenses, phone, tablet, travel expenses, hospital parking fees ($24 per day!), house care, and groceries... So anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated!
