Hi, my name is Sherry, and I am fundraising for Gary Lauer. One year ago today, October 4th, 2021, a very traumatic vehicle accident changed our lives drastically.

On Gary's way to work, a car failed to stop at a stop sign, and they collided. I so wish that I would have hugged him just a little bit longer that morning. It only took a split second to break his entire body. Gary was airlifted to The University of Iowa's ICU trauma unit, where he was in critical condition.Along with his entire body being broken, he sustained a brain injury. It was a very, very, scary time for myself and all his loved ones. Gary was in intensive care for an extended amount of time. He endured many surgeries and was in a coma. Gary had to have a colostomy bag placed and had to recieve dialysis. When the doctors decided Gary was ready, he spent a month at a rehabilitation hospital. He was finally able to come home December 28th, 2021.

Recovery has been painful and difficult for Gary, both physically and mentally. He still has some surgeries in the future.

One of the hardest things for Gary is his inability to work. The hospital bills are unending, the regular bills keep coming, and he depleted his savings. Any amount of help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much.
