Please Donate to Help Lori Defeat Breast Cancer

Hi, I'm Stephanie and I am fundraising for my best friend, Lori Elam. It grieves my heart to write this, but as many of you know, Lori was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer) in late December 2022. Lori’s cancer is Stage 3 and aggressive. She will be beginning treatment immediately.

Lori is so much more than this cancer diagnosis. Lori is a daughter and a caretaker to her elderly mother, a mother to two daughters, Anna, who is in high school and Madison, who is in college, a sister, a friend, a fiance, and a Sister in Christ. Her presence lights up a room and puts everyone at ease; not to mention, she is the funniest person I know. She is always there to support everyone around her; she has spent her entire working career helping others through social work and healthcare. She is a constant advocate for others in their most difficult and discouraging times. She needs our help now during her most difficult time. Lori is ready to fight, but the road to recovery is long.

As anyone who has been through cancer or witnessed a loved one go through cancer knows, cancer treatment is a marathon. Lori met with her surgical oncologist this week to develop her treatment plan. She will need immediate surgery for a bilateral mastectomy, followed by several rounds of chemotherapy. She will also need radiation and hormone therapy. Lori does have health insurance, but she is already left with countless co-pays, will accumulate medical bill balances, and will need recovery and comfort items. She will need to take extended time off from work and will need help with her finances when she is unable to work.

The most important thing is for Lori to be able to focus her energy on healing without worrying about the financial strain of cancer treatment.
