Hi everyone, this is Maddy, Hannah, Clare, and Camille. We are the daughters of the amazing woman named Lori Munday. Many of you have had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful lady, as she has been the rock to many people throughout her life. Growing up, she has opened the door to her home to people in need, our friends, and family members. She has always been the person to go to when you needed help. She became not only our therapist, but our friends’ therapist. Our friends call her “mom.” This lady would give you the shirt off her back, a true saint.
On January 23rd, she was urgently taken by ambulance to the ER because she couldn’t breathe. When she arrived at the ER, she was barely conscious with a dangerously low BP of 40/20, low body temperature of 95.9, acidic blood pH of 7.09. The amazing team of doctors and nurses worked frantically to find the cause. They discovered she had pneumonia and she was in septic shock. Our mom ended up going into cardiac arrest and they preformed CPR for roughly 18 minutes. They were able to regain her pulse and intubate her. They quickly moved her up to the ICU. The doctor came and spoke with us, letting us know she was quickly declining and we may only have about 2-3 hours left with our precious mother. We decided to throw a Hail Mary and attempt to place her on dialysis, not knowing if her fragile body would withstand it. By the grace of God, slowly but surely, she began to make some progress. Day by day, she was fighting and showing progress and her labs began to level out. Her breathing tube was removed on day 5 and on day 6 she was moved to a step down unit. She stayed in the step down unit for about 2 weeks, where she continued to get dialysis three times per week, occupational therapy, physical therapy, antibiotics, and other supportive treatment for her recovery.
She has been able to transition home after a long stay at the hospital, which was a rollercoaster of emotional events. While she has fought her way to make these improvements, she still has a long way to go in terms of recovery. She continues to need dialysis 3 times per week and physical therapy twice per week, and copious amounts to specialist doctor appointments. After her body recovers a little more, the doctors are also having her go in to have her gallbladder removed, due to pancreatitis it is causing. The four of us have been able to ensure that one of us is with her because she still requires a lot of assistance 24 hours a day. With all of this, she is unable to return to work for the foreseeable future and she has an overwhelming amount of medical bills that will begin to start coming in soon, along with her day to day bills, utilities , gas/food, etc. We are hoping that our friends, family, and greater community would be able to help us out with covering some of these expenses. Our mother is an amazing mom, Gigi (her name by her grandchildren), friend, sister, and everything else. We just want the best for her because she always wants the best for others!
