What an end to this year it’s been! My 6-year-old grandson was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) right before his birthday. He was rushed to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma in full Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) and then ambulanced over to Seattle Children’s ICU where he stayed for 3 days while all the doctors and nurses tried to get his numbers under control. We are told that he was born with this, and he recently had a virus that his little body could not fight which awakened the T1D.
As you can imagine this is a very big adjustment not only for our grandson, but also for his entire family. Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa as well as others are learning how to be prepared to help manage medications and monitor levels at this very critical time. We have been told the first year is going to be the toughest. In fact, poor little one has been rushed back to Seattle Children’s twice since his diagnosis.
Not only does this add financial medical stress on the family, but also emotional and life changing. With this new diagnosis, he will require a strict diet, insulin, and blood sugar monitoring often throughout the day. I wanted to set up this Go-Fund-Me page to help support my son, his wife and my 2 grandsons and hope to ease some of the financial stress this is causing for them as a family. This will help make life a little easier for them and they can focus on getting my grandson the medical attention that he will be needing.
Please keep them all in your prayers as we learn how to live with this new T1D diagnosis. Thank you all for your prayers and support! With love, Connie & Steve
