Veronika, a single mom, decided to flee Ukraine in late February when the Russian bombing started. Leaving their home and her cooking studio behind, she packed her three children Polina (14), Nina (11), and Yegor (8) in their car, each with a suitcase and a back pack and drove to the Romanian border. After a six hour wait, they were able to cross over and make her way to Bucharest. After 36 hours straight on the road, they rested before continuing on to Belgrade, Serbia where they had friends that provided them with somewhere to stay for two weeks. Those friends connected them with my wife Marissa Vergnetti and me in Philadelphia and we offered to open up our home to them. They left their car behind, got on a plane and arrived in the US on March 15th.
With much support from our friends and our community, they have housing and food with dinners being dropped off several nights a week on our porch and some donations of clothing, gift cards and money.
Veronika would love to eventually have a place to call her own for her and her children and your gift will help her to pay rent and to furnish the home or apartment that she finds and also to buy a car to transport her and her family.
It will also help her hopefully open up a studio once she is legally able to work where she can resume teaching cooking, so that she can support her family and get her children enrolled in school and learning more of the English language . Please help in any way you can. Your gift will be greatly appreciated.
