Please help 74 year old woman from being homeless!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Donna, and I’m trying to get donations to help keep my son and I from living on the street. I’ve been battling serious health issues for the last 15+ years, such as several blackout seizures, some that landed me in the hospital and took months to recover from. I have no cartilage and arthritis in my right knee, I’ve fallen numerous times over the years. It has become very difficult to even get around, let alone to go up and down stairs or walk long distances. I am in need of knee replacement surgery, but do not have the finances for it, and Medicare does not provide much relief. I am also in dire need of major dental work, and will require new dentures as soon as possible. My 43 year old son, Zach, was helping to take care of me, but unfortunately he started having medical complications of his own. After losing his father very unexpectedly in 2019, he began to have serious mental issues, such as depression, anxiety, which led to numerous, severe panic attacks, and is now on medication for this. I was living with him in his apartment in south Austin for over a year, helping him adjust and get back on his feet. But I became sick again, and had to move back to my rent room. My son eventually lost his job at Tito’s Vodka, as well as his new car, and therefore had to move in with me. He’s now jobless, car-less, in extreme debt, and about to be homeless, along with his 74 year old mother. For 4 years I was renting a room in a house in Cedar Park, Texas, but last month the landlord raised the rent from $600 to $1,000 per month with only a week or so notice. My son and I were evicted, and now we are both currently living together in a motel room in northeast Austin. Only because of the generosity of some family members and friends, we are not homeless. We are doing everything we can to get back on our feet, but with my son being out of work, still having health issues, no vehicle, no money, and no place to live, it has been very difficult! I am on Social Security Retirement, and for anyone who is retired or on SSD, you know that’s not much. We’re trying to get help from the government, as well as other groups and organizations, but there are a lot of people in need, and most places we contact have a waiting list. Some assistance programs we simply do not qualify for, and others never call you back! We’ve been calling homeless shelters, many are full, given the time of year, so our options are beginning to run out. We understand that many people are in serious need right now, especially with the cold temperatures at night, but my son and I are scared and we just don’t want to be outside with no place to go. We are still waiting and trying to get assistance, and my son is trying to get a new job, but as of now we don’t have anything. We desperately need food and a place to live, so donations of any kind would be greatly appreciated! We know that it’s a very rough time for a lot of people, if you don’t have the means to donate, we definitely understand and sympathize, please do not feel obligated. Please just keep us in your thoughts and prayers, as we struggle, with hope and courage in our hearts, to get through this very difficult time in our lives. With all of our love and heartfelt gratitude, thank you so very much for taking the time to read this, and please take care of yourselves and your loved ones, all the best, Donna & Zach.
