Please help 88 year old Gordon keep his home

On June 14th 2021, Gordon Layton accidently transferred $71,400 to an incorrect bank account. He had mistakenly saved this bank account in his online banking, ’pay anyone’ menu as David Wright House Removals ,the company that had transported the relocatable home he bought. The bank account actually belonged to the building certifier that had certified the house plans. The certifier's administration clerk advised Gordon that the money had been received and she would transfer it to the correct recipient being David Wright House Removals. The Certifier or owner of the company instead, immediately moved the money to another account and has since passed it onto someone else, effectively spending it. The certifier has been arrested and charged but it does not look like he can or will pay the money back.

The bank, although notified of the error within 3 hours, say they followed their processes and were unable to reverse the payment. They have officially declined to assist further in any way.

David Wright House Removals are now chasing their money and have commenced legal action against Gordon to recover the funds. They have informed us, via their lawyer, that they will cease Gordons house and land and sell it to recover the debt.

All this stress has taken its toll on Gordon, and on his 88th birthday in July, he suffered a stroke.

So now, not only is the house currently under threat of being taken from him, it also has no running water, no bathroom, no kitchen and the plaster is falling from the roof. Gordon, upsettingly, now believes that this will be his way of life, getting his drinking water from a bucket under the sink.

This GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Gordon's grandkids, who are feeling extremely helpless due to the current border restrictions in place, as we cannot get there to help in any way. We are hoping to do our best to raise enough money to contribute for the work needed to save our elderly grandfathers house in place of physically being there to support him.
