I'm raising funds for my mom, who fell victim to a scammer and lost all her savings. She had called Amazon support and the man told her there was fraud on her account. He convinced her to download the Anydesk app so he could "show" her a $300 attempted Zelle purchase and a GameSpot purchase by other people. It seems he used this app to remote into her phone. He convinced her that her money wasn't safe in the bank but would be secure in crypto currency. He "helped" her deposit her cash into bitcoin ATM's by staying on the phone and guiding her through the process. She downloaded the app for Coinme to see her balance. All the money soon transferred out, and cannot be reversed. The unbelievable part is later in the evening the scammer called her to tell her she had been scammed!
Mom is 74 and shares an apartment with my grandmother who is 94! Sharing expenses has helped them both since they are living on social security, but now mom is without any emergency funds and that is a scary feeling.
My family would appreciate any assistance you can give and please have conversations with your elderly family members about this type of scam,
Gratefully,
