Help the Afar People Affected by Acute Crisis due to the Ongoing Conflict

A year has passed since T.P.L.F. forces attacked a federal military base in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region sparking a brutal confrontation with devastating consequences for the civilian population. The conflict later expanded to the neighboring Amara and Afar regions at the end of June 2021 displacing many more people. The U.N. has warned that hundreds of thousands of people are at risk of starvation.
The Afar, with an estimated population of 2 m occupying a strategic area, is currently facing an unprecedented crisis because of sustained attacks by the T.P.L.F. forces at multiple fronts in Afar Region. Hundreds of thousands of families have been driven from their homes and displaced with no or limited assistance. Children are dying of malnutrition. The recent joint investigation by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Ethiopian Human Rights Commission reported that the Afar people are subjected to war crimes and crimes against humanity as the invading TPLF forces are using war time sexual violence, destroying schools, health centers, schools, etc. and targeting and killing innocent unarmed civilians which constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law. Afar is under grave humanitarian crisis that is putting the lives of millions of Afar people at stake and the humanitarian and aid organizations are not responding as per the gravity of the situation.
Afar Association in Norway (Norges Afar Foreningen), a legally registered association in Norway on behalf of Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA) based in Logya, Afar Region in Ethiopia appeals for support of Afar affected by the acute humanitarian crisis due to current conflict in Ethiopia.
Afar Pastoralist Development Association (ADPA) has been working in Afar since 1994 as an organization run by and for the Afar people. Right now, APDA is working to assist more than 200,000 people feeling from ongoing fighting. They are in desperate need of funds to meet needs and save lives. APDA’s response include:
Provision of food targeting the most vulnerable including supplementary food to pregnant, lactating mothers and children suffering from stunting, health services prioritizing treatment of acute conditions, water trucking for the displaced people and ensuring continuation of education services for displaced children.

በግጭት ምክንያት በጽኑ ቀውስ የተጎዳውን የአፋር ሕዝብ ይርዱ

በአፋር ክልል ሎግያ የሚገኘው የአፋር አርብቶ አደር ልማት ማህበርን በመወከል በኖርዌይ የሚገኘው የአፋር ማህበር በኖርዌይ (Norges Afar Foreningen) በአሁኑ ወቅት በኢትዮጵያ በተከሰተው ግጭት ምክንያት በከፍተኛ ሰብዓዊ ቀውስ የተጎዱትን የአፋር ማህበረሰብ ለመደገፍ ይማፀናል።
ሕውኃት በኢትዮጵያ ሰሜናዊ ትግራይ ክልል በሚገኘው የፌደራል መከላከያ ሠራዊት ወታደራዊ ካምፕ ላይ ጥቃት ከፈፀመና አሰቃቂ ሰብዓዊ ቀውስና ውድመት ካስከተለ እነሆ አንድ አመት ያለፈው ሲሆን ብዙኃን ሰላማዊ ዜጏች ህይወት ላይ ዘላቂና ጉልህ ውድመት አስከትሏል። በሰኔ 2013 ዓ.ም መጨረሻ ላይ ግጭቱ ወደ አጎራባች አማራ እና አፋር ክልሎች ተስፋፍቶ ብዙ ተጨማሪ ሰዎችን አፈናቅሏል። የተባበሩት መንግስታት ድርጅት በመቶ ሺዎች የሚቆጠሩ ሰዎች ለረሃብ የተጋለጡና ሴቶችና ህጻናት በምግብ እጦት ለህልፈትና ለከፍተኛ የጤና መጎሳቆል እየተዳረጉ መሆናቸውን አስጠንቅቋል። በቅርቡ ይፋ የሆነው የተባበሩት መንግስታት ከፍተኛ የሰብዓዊ መብት ኮሚሽንና የኢትዮጲያ የሰብዊ መብት ኮሚሽን ጥምረት የተጠናቀረው ሪፖርት በአፋር ህዝብ ላይ በተለይ በህፃናት፣ ሴቶችና አዛውንቶች ላይ አስከፊ የፆታዊ ጥቃት፣ እስራትና እገታዎች፣ የጦርነት ጥቃቶችና በዓለም አቀፍ የጦርነትና ኢሰብዓዊ ድርጊት ወንጀልነት የሚያሥፈርጁ ጥሰቶች መፈፀማቸውን አሳስቧል፡፡ ይህ ድርጊት ጦርነቱ የቀጠለና የህወኃት ወረራም ያልተገታ መሆኑ ሲታሰብ እየደረሰ ያለው ሰብአዊ ቀውስ ከፍተኛ የሰው ህይወትና ውድመት ማስከተሉ በቂ የሚዲያ ሽፋን ሳያገኝ በመረጃ ጭለማ ውስጥ እየተፈጸመ ያለ ትራጄዲያዊ ክስተት ነው፡፡
ሕውኃት በአፋር ክልል በርካታ ግንባሮች በከፈተው ወታደራዊ ጥቃት ምክንያት ከፍ ያለ ስትራቴጂካዊ ጠቀሜታ ባለው ክልል ላይ ሰፍሮ የሚገኘውና ወደ 2 ሚሊዮን የሚገመት የህዝብ ቁጥር ያለው የአፋር ሕዝብ በአሁኑ ወቅት ከዚህ ቀደም ታይቶ በማይታወቅ ደረጃ ለችግር ተዳርጓል:: በመቶ ሺዎች የሚቆጠሩ ቤተሰቦች ያለ ምንም ወይም ውስን እርዳታ ከመኖሪያ ቤታቸው ተፈናቅለዋል። ህፃናት በምግብ እጦት እየረገፉ ነው። አለም አቀፍ የእርዳታ ድርጅቶችም በቂ ምላሽ እየሰጡ አይደለም፡፡
የአፋር አርብቶ አደር ልማት ማህበር (APDA) ከ1985 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ በአፋር ተወላጆች የሚመራና ለአፋር ሕዝብ ልማት የቆመ ድርጅት ሆኖ እየሰራ ይገኛል። በአሁኑ ወቅት በየአካባቢው ያለውን ግጭት ሸሽተው የተሰደዱ ከ200,000 በላይ ተፈናቃዬችን ለመርዳት APDA የበኩሉን ጥረት እያደረገ ይገኛል። እነዚህን በርካታ ፍላጎቶችን ለማሟላት እና ህይወትን ለማዳን APDA የገንዘብ ድጋፍ በእጅጉ ያስፈልገዋል። የAPDA አጣዳፊ ምላሽ የሚከተሉትን ያጠቃልላል: -
ለነፍሰ ጡር፣ ለሚያጠቡ እናቶች እና በመቀንጨር ችግር የሚሠቃዩ ሕፃናትን ጨምሮ ለችግር ተጋላጭ ለሆኑት ምግብ አቅርቦት፣ ቅድሚያ የሚሰጠው ለአጣዳፊ ሕክምና ሁኔታዎች የጤና አገልግሎ፣ ለተፈናቀሉ ወገኖች ውኃ ማጓጓዝ እና ለተፈናቀሉ ሕፃናት የሚሰጠውን የትምህርት አገልግሎት ቀጣይነት ማረጋገጥ ይጨምራል።
ለዚህም ጥሪያችንን በአክብሮት በመላው የአፋር ህዝብ ስም እናቀርባን፡፡ እናመሰግናለን!
