Help Auron Fight Blastomycosis

Donation protected

Hi, I'm Aja and the cute, very good puppers in the photo are Auron (left) and Mira (right). They are both Australian Shepherds, close in age (5 years old), but from different parents.

Auron has recently come down with some medical issues, including a skin infection, eye infection, and all caused by a systemic fungal infection. Edit 3: I finally remembered that it's called Blastomycosis. Prognosis depends upon how well the good boi responds to treatment.

We are asking for $3,000 to help cover all of Auron's medical expenses.

(Please see update 2 at bottom, costs have been updated. Dec 8th: A copy of his most recent vet visit has been added at the bottom. I have kept all receipts and can provide more evidence if requested.)

Thank you for your time, and if you could, please spread this around. Very worried for my doggo, and would like to get him the help he deserves.

Another pic of Auron for cuteness overload:

If you'd like to see more photos and videos of the doggos and their kitty sister, Socrates, they do have some socials:

Update 1: Turns out that the eye infection was just something got into his eye. All clear now, but the skin infection is just getting worse. Getting him into the vet ASAP.

Update 2: The eye infection was part of the overall infection. Turns out, he got got by some sort of fungus that likes to live near wet areas. The fungus starts in the skin, migrates to the eyes, then to the bones, before hitting the lungs.

According to the doctor, he's only been able to save 1 dog from this infection, however, since it was caught early enough in Auron, he might make it.

Treatment plan is a full 6 month or more course of stuff. They have given him:

  • an ointment for his eye (neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates and dexamethasone),
  • an antibiotic for his skin infection (augmentin),
  • and a 1 month supply of the antifungal (itraconazole) for now.

In 2 weeks, he has to go back to the doctor for a check up, see how he's responding to the medications. Updated costs:

  • Office call and exam: $69.00
  • Fluorescein stain for cornea: $20.00
  • Cytology: $57.00
  • Neopoly dex opth ointment (eye ointment): $9.80 +tax
  • Augmentin: $32.58 +tax
  • Total for initial visit: $191.14
  • Outside prescription of itraconazole: $68.00 +tax (with discount)

Future costs (including potential urine screening):

  • Further prescriptions of itraconazole: Between $68.00 - $120.00
  • Urine screening for fungi: $375.00
  • Shipping for urine screening: $25.00
  • Vet visits: approx. $69.00 per visit, will need approx. 16+ visits for check ups

None of this is accounting for any other costs associated with the potential that Auron does not respond to treatment. If that happens, then I hope at least the itchy skin goes away so he can live peacefully in his final days.

Thank you for reading, please help my dog.

Side note: If anyone needs to see the receipt from the vet and other receipts, let me know and I'll send them somehow.

Edited Dec 8 2024: Added a pic of his most recent vet visit (Nov 13th) along with his Itraconazol (anti-fungal) and Cerenia (anti-nausea) receipts. Itraconazol script is sent to an outside pharmacy as it's cheaper to acquire there ($64 with discount versus $240 at vet office), while the Cerenia is sourced from the vet office at $62 for 4 pills. The good boi has another check-up scheduled for the 13th of this month. I will continue to use the app's update feature to give status updates after every vet visit.

Thank you everyone for your support. Auron is slowly on his way to recovery!

Edits on Dec 8th, 2024 include the above as well as a decrease in the asking amount ($5000 to $3000).
