Please help Ayne and her family fight cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Matilda and I am fundraising for my buddy's family. I am in year 6 and my buddy Hana is in year 1. Earlier this year Ayne, Hana’s mum, got diagnosed with brain cancer and I want to do what I can to help.
I’m Gilda, Matilda’s mum. I’ve gotten to know Hana and her family over the last couple of years, and they are such a lovely family, so welcoming and warm. I have learned that they immigrated to Australia from Ethiopia and arrived in Newcastle in 2018, before moving to Melbourne in 2021 when Teketo was offered a role at Deakin university. They have Hana who is 7 and Zion who is 2. Ayne was working at a nursing home but hasn’t been able to work as she is undergoing chemotherapy and her husband Teketo, is now her main carer.
Life has been hard without any family here to help. Financially things are tight, especially as they don’t qualify for Medicare or any government benefit on the visa they are on. Returning to Ethiopia is also not an option, as there is civil unrest and too dangerous to return.
We are hoping that as a community, we can help Ayne and her family through this tough time by raising 9 months worth of rent. If you can help with a donation, they would be so appreciative. Thank you so much, Matilda and Gilda.
