Help Get My Puppy Bear Returned Home

On July 20, 2023 my entire world changed in just 24 hours.

While walking my dog in Dania Beach FL, I was brutally assaulted by a man with a long criminal history who tried to take my little dog Bear away from me. I fought as hard as I could and managed to get away with my dog from this violent man. I was bleeding from my head and face but managed to get home where I collapsed on my bed. That is all that I remember of that night. Hours later I woke up covered in blood, and immediately called 911 and asked for an ambulance.

Instead of an ambulance four officers from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded. I was bleeding from my face and my brain when the police arrived. I was dazed from the shock of the attack and the loss of blood. Instead of immediately calling for an ambulance the police spent twenty minutes badgering me with lots of questions while I continued to bleed. They then put me in handcuffs, placed me in a police car and took me to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

Once I arrived at Memorial Hospital, I was rushed into brain surgery. I spent 5 days in intensive care and an additional 7 days recovering in the hospital.

My 3 year old Yorkipoo who was at my side the entire time was taken away from me. I was told by the police that my dog would be going to a Broward Animal Shelter for safe keeping and would be held until I was released. My microchipped Yorkipoo Bear was then taken to the shelter where his chip was scanned. The pet chip company 24petwatch.com immediately identified my pet, my ownership and phone number, and my emergency contact person to call in emergencies. The animal shelter, did not bother to contact me, or my emergency contact person and put my pet up for adoption. My chipped registered pet was adopted on July 27, 2023 as I was recovering in the hospital. The dozens of phone calls that I made while in the hospital to the animal shelter, inquiring about my dog were ignored under the leadership of Director Emily Wood.

The hour that I was released from the hospital I rushed to the shelter to pick up my little boy only to find out that he was adopted without my knowledge or permission. My world was now shattered.

With the help from shelter volunteers, I was granted a 1-minute chat with Director Emily Wood, who quickly informed me that the new owner did not want to return my child.

I adopted Bear during Covid when he was only a few months old. Since I work from home Bear has never left my side since the day I adopted him. He became my child. Due to the stress of all of this I ended back up in the hospital for several days as I began to lose my vision. The doctors stabilized me, my vision came back and I am now on the mend.

I had to seek a lawyer to begin the process of getting my dog back. I started this GoFundMe page to assist with my legal and medical bills as I recover and fight to have my 3-year old Yorkie poo Bear returned to me.
