Hello family and friends of Chaz and Tyra,
My name is Christi, I'm a childhood friend of Tyra's. I'm creating this GoFundMe to help Tyra and her family get through this tragic time.
On the morning of June 25, 2024, Chaz Hufkens sadly attempted to take his own life. He remains on life support currently. He is surrounded by all his loving family and friends. Unfortunately, they know they have to prepare for the worst. The doctors have explained that the gunshot wound is not one that he can recover from.
Four and a half years ago, Chaz was in a horrific car accident. He suffered extensive injuries and had to go through weeks of rehabilitation to get his life back. This was very devastating to Chaz and his family. He was never able to drive after the accident and suffered emotionally.
Chaz was born on November 6, 1998 (25). He is such an amazing, beautiful, caring, loving son, grandson, brother, and friend! Chaz always makes everyone smile and laugh even on a bad day. He is always willing to help out his family and friends because he has a heart of gold. He is loved by everyone he has touched in this life.
Please help by donating anything you can to help cover unexpected expenses to get his family through this very tragic time. Please continue to keep Chaz, Tyra, and his family in your prayers. Also, please share. Thank you in advance, everyone.
UPDATE: Chaz Michael Hufkens, known affectionately as Chaz to all who knew him, left this world too soon on June 29, 2024, at the age of 25. Born in Mishawaka, Indiana, on November 6, 1998, to Tyra Hufkens and Ian Davis, Chaz was raised by his doting grandparents, Charles and Margaret "Maggie" (McGlothin) Hufkens.
Chaz grew up in a loving and supportive environment alongside his siblings Sequoia, Cheyenne, Noah, Maegan Davis, Cameron Sausman, and Bradley Sausman. He also shared an unbreakable bond with his honorary sister, Arielle. He is also survived by his grandmother, Denise Thomas as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and honorary family members who are feeling the loss of Chaz's vibrant presence. His grandfathers, Charles Hufkens and Daniel Davis, preceded him in death, and we take comfort in knowing they are reunited.
A 2018 graduate of Mishawaka High School, Chaz entered the workforce with enthusiasm and dedication. He was known for his strong work ethic at Lippert RV, where he was a valued team member. Chaz's colleagues will remember him not only for his commitment to his job but also for his ability to bring laughter and light-heartedness into the workplace. “On Granny Cuz!”
Chaz was the embodiment of a life lived with passion and joy. An avid music fan, he found solace and excitement in the melodies and rhythms that filled his days. Chaz was a gentle soul who loved all animals. His love for the great outdoors was undeniable, as he was happiest when surrounded by nature. Chaz's adventurous spirit led him to explore the majestic landscapes of Colorado on camping trips with his stepfather, Michael Sausman, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Chaz could often be spotted longboarding through the streets, taking in the sights and sounds of his hometown. His playful spirit and love for teasing and joking with his family and friends will be sorely missed, as it was these moments of shared laughter and fun that many will hold dear.
Above all, Chaz's love for his siblings and cousins was unparalleled. He was a protective and caring figure in their lives, always ready to offer support, share in their joys, or provide a listening ear. The love he had for his family was evident to all, shining through in every action and every word.
Chaz will be remembered as a loving, funny, and adventurous soul, whose presence could light up any room. His laughter, his jokes, and his unwavering positivity have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rest in peace, dear Chaz. Your spirit will forever soar freely, just as you lived—boundlessly and with an open heart.
A Celebration of Chaz’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 6th, at 5pm in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family from 3-5pm in the funeral home.
