UPDATE ON CHOPPER BELOW IN BOLD :
Hello, my name is Donna Suarez, I am a retired Police Officer who is on disabliltiy from my service at Ground Zero on 9/11 as well as getting hurt and needing several surgeries myself. I only get one small pension check a month that barly covers my mortgaPlease help with Choppers Surgery and medical carege
Chopper is my sons Emotion Support Animal. My son is bipolar. On Tues night Chopper was hit by a vehicle while on a walk and the vehicle fled the scene. My son does not have anything . Unfortunatly his truck went on fire last month and he lost that and all of his mechanic tools. There were no vets open in upstate NY where he got hit or anywhere in the vacinity . So my son laid with him all night and he said chopper didnt make a sound unless my son got up to do something. He told me that he even looked up how to put him down himself online because he was going to die with all of the blood he didnt want him to suffer. I texted my son Wednesday morning to see if Chopper made it thru the night and he said yes. I was luckly in PA visiting my niece about 25 miles away. I immediately got dressed went over to NY and rushed chopper to the vet. They did XRays and a Cat Scan and said the only thing basically wrong with me is his Pelvis is shattered and he needs surgery. I called so many vets to get a ball park idea of how much the surgery would cost. Almost everyone of them wanted me to bring him in. I didnt want to drive him hurt 150 miles. So the vet he was at found Eclipse in Whippany NJ. I transported him there and the other vet sent over all of his xrays and cat scans. Chopper is only 5 months old and a wonderful puppy. I am getting estimates of over 10k with what was also already paid to both vets so far, not including aftercare. Chopper has a long road to recovery if I can raise the funds to save him. Otherwise I will have to make the decision tomorrow to put Chopper down. Which will devestate my son and actually myself. I thank everyone for any help they can give from the bottom of my heart. I am the type of person who never asks anyone for help but unfortunately this time I have to save Chopper.
UPDATE ON CHOPPER 9/29/22
On Sat 9/24/22 I met with the Surgeon Dr. Miller of Eclipse Vet in Whippany in person and explained what Chopper had been thru. Dr. Miller had given me an estimate of the surgery which was what I had posted earlier. Unfortunatly we had not met our goal but someone stepped up and lent me the money knowing that I had a Go Fund Me set up for Chopper. Chopper spent 6 1/2 hrs in surgery. His pelvis was shattered on both sides and Dr. Miller said while he was in there he noticed that Choppers ball and joint were also shattered. He had to cut the top of Choppers femer bone off. I would like to personally thank everyone that prayed, donated, shared or even called to see how Chopper was doing.
Chopper still has a long road to recovery and vet visits ahead of him . The vet said because he is only 5 months he should make a full recovery. Plus have a funny walk from the top of the femer being cut off. Chopper is currently at home with me on 6 to 8 weeks of cage rest. LOL I feel like I am a new mom to a newborn. If I have had 8 full hours sleep in 3 days thats alot. But that is nothing compared to what poor Chopper is going thru. He is in alot of pain , crying most of the day but thats because he was on some heavy duty meds at the vet . They sent him home with meds that I compare to asperin for pets. Right now I have to lift him up to take him out to go potty because he cannot use his back legs yet. He trys but he looks like Edward Sissor Hands. Poor baby.
Choppers vet bill to date is $12,565.75 between the original vet and the surgeon. And he still has to go back for xrays as well as other things. I am thanking any one that can help with Choppers medical bills in advance. Many people have said Why didnt you put him down. My response was I am an animal lover my whole life and will always do what I can for an animal. My 2nd response is he is an emotional support animal to a bipolar person he brings joy and love where they dont feel any. I have given 23 years of my life to helping people and now that I cannot do that anymore I will help the animals. Even if I have to beg for help. Animals dont ask to be brought into this world , People have them made and then let the loose on our streets left to fend for themselves or die. Thanking everyone in advance for your continued support and donations to help cover Choppers bills.
