Please help Cindy and her family pay for expenses

For over 18 years, Cindy Whitaker has been helping local children fight cancer in Central Florida, along side families as an advocate and supporter, but also a mother who knows the journey of having a child with cancer. Anyone following Cindy’s story knows she has a beloved son, who after battling medulloblastoma when he was 5, recently suffered a stroke and reoccurrence of cancer at the age of 21. Amidst these set backs Cindy did not stop serving the community or advocating for her son and now she has recently discovered she herself has entered the ring with her own diagnosis.

Last month Cindy was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. Please help us give back to Cindy and help her with medical and other expenses as she fights a new battle. …

in her own words:

“As many of you might know our family has gone through medical challenges in the last couple of years. Danny is doing really well with his recovery and everyday, he gets better and better.

I wanted to tell everyone individually but finding the words is much harder than I thought it would be. I wasn’t sure how & I still can’t believe this new reality myself….

I have been diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. When Danny was diagnosed, I prayed to God that I could take his place …never expecting that this would be the path we would be enduring.

I have dedicated myself over the last 18 years to children and their families, diagnosed with cancer. I never thought I would have to experience this diagnosis myself.

I completed my first round of chemo last week and it was BRUTAL. I have NEVER been so tired and lethargic. I truly have a new appreciation for what our kiddos and their families go through.

I will have six more treatments, then radiation and/or surgery at Mayo Clinic. I am trying to navigate this new path with not only for myself, but with Danny as well.
I have always empathized with what Danny has gone through. I’m trying to look at the positive. I appreciate that I am able to get chemo at home on a 48 hour drip as opposed to being inpatient. I am able to comprehend the experience of what children and their families go through in a new way, even at a small level. I have to believe on some level that God is giving me a new perspective. It’s crazy to think this is my new reality.

I appreciate prayers, positive vibes, and well wishes. Although I don’t know what my future holds I am so grateful that I have the faith in God that I need to accept whatever this life has in store for me.“
