Please help Darrell Cosby recover from assault

Donation protected
Darrell lost his job in January this year so he started driving for Uber and Lyft. Things were going well until March 15th when he received a call which turned out to be 5 heavily inebriated people. They were loud and abusive and asked to be taken to the other side of town, about a 30 minute ride.

Darrell had had bad experiences with drunk passengers before and was uncomfortable with this group so he politely asked them to find another ride.

They were already in his car at that point, refused to get out, and demanded he take them to their destination. They became more verbally abusive and an exchange of words followed. Darrell, sensing that he might get hit, got out of his car.

The group followed him out of the car while continuing their verbal abuse. One of the passengers started aggressively tapping Darrell in the chest, as if making a point, and when Darrell said to stop, he was struck in the back of the head by another member of the group at which point they all jumped on him and beat him to the ground.

Unfortunately, several nearby onlookers did nothing to help or intervene on Darrell's behalf as the group of 5 beat him mercilessly. They pounded him and kicked him repeatedly in the back of his head, his face and his body.

The result of this beating for Darrell was a fractured skull, subdural hematoma (bleeding on the brain), concussion, facial trauma and multiple abrasions. He was hospitalized for 3 days.

Darrell has had ongoing health issues related to the attack-- headaches, memory loss, and general brain fog. He goes for regular brain scans to check for continued bleeding. His doctor has told him that it will be a year or two before his brain completely heals.

Darrell is currently looking for work but is limited in terms of the types of things he can do while he recovers. His wife of 37 years, Pam, who has her own medical issues, has unfortunately been laid off during the pandemic as well. Their current outstanding medical bills amount to a little more than $43,000, with more coming.

Any amount you can give to ease some of this immediate financial pressure would be hugely appreciated by Darrell, his wife Pam, and by me, his good friend from high school days.

Thank you!
