Hi, my name is Erin, and I’m raising money for my boyfriend Derek. Derek is in need of $7,000 in order to be eligible for his Kidney Transplant, the immunosuppressant medications that he will need to keep his new kidney healthy and his medical bills. Without your generosity, Derek will stay “inactive” on the transplant list at the Mayo Clinic, leaving him unable to receive the organ he desperately needs.

Derek’s life was turned upside down in March 2023, when he was hospitalized with a Hemorrhagic Stroke, in which his brain was bleeding, and Stage 5 (End Stage) Kidney Failure at the young age of 35. Unfortunately, we were in the middle of a move from Pennsylvania to Florida when we received his life-threating diagnosis.

Derek has already been through multiple surgeries, with more to come in his future. Every night, Derek has to be connected to his dialysis machine for 9+ hours. Do to the lasting effects from his stroke, we must do this together. He then has to drain and refill mid-day with more dialysis. This is a routine he must follow everyday. As you can imagine, Derek endures a great amount of discomfort due to his abdomen being full of multiple liters of dialysis fluid. When he drains, it causes severe abdominal pain and discomfort. His daily medical routine causes him great stress.

With Derek unable to work, due to his diagnosis, we were down to one income, and struggling to make ends meet with his growing medical bills. To make matters worse, I was just unexpectedly laid off from my job.
