Please help Derrick - myasthenia gravis CRISIS

Hi, my name is Tiffany and I am reaching out for help. This is an urgent time of need, for my dear friend, Derrick. He was diagnosed with a rare disease called myasthenia gravis in April. This disease causes weakness and rapid fatigue of muscles under voluntary control. The condition is caused by a breakdown in communication between nerves and muscles and cannot be cured.

I watched my friend’s health deteriorate rapidly without warning. He struggled to swallow, breathe on his own, lift 5 lbs, and crawled some days more than he could walk. During this difficult time, Derrick lost his job. He received medical benefits for 1 month, until that too, was taken away. While receiving unemployment benefits, he earned too much for assistance and too little to continue living and paying for the life he built for himself.

Losing his health insurance caused Derrick to miss over 2 months of his IV treatments; Treatments needed to keep him alive. His neurologist called today and advised he should be admitted to the hospital due to this life threatening crisis. When I pulled up to his home, his car was gone. It was repossessed. He has had to make choices each month on what bills he should pay. Shelter, food, medications, heat, car, and all other expenses. His income wasn’t enough and now even that is gone.

Instead of filing for disability, he has been determined to find work again; and he has! He starts his first day of his new career on Friday, November 10, 2023.

Derrick helps people in anyway he can; even if that means he will go without. He never asks for anything. He needs help. He needs love. He needs temporary assistance while he gets back on his feet. His car is almost paid off. He doesn’t deserve to lose the only transportation he has access to. He wants to work and provide for himself! He deserves to live his life without so much suffering.

Please, help Derrick get back on his feet. He has lost so much (I can’t even begin to list it all). As a group, WE can help him get some normalcy back in his life.
