Please Help Lisa Dragonfly After Eaton Fire
Donation protected
Among the first properties to be touched by the Eaton Canyon fire shortly after 7pm on Jan 7th, the blaze consumed my studio and home of Dragonfly Sound as I fought 80mph gusts of wind trying to drive there before the evacuation was announced. My name is Lisa Fowle and my property is across the street from the Eaton Canyon Visitor's Center.
Sadly my most valuable things will remain irreplaceable - handmade art from loved ones such as paintings & jewelry; artifacts from abroad; a childhood of handpicked shells & rocks collected to tell the story of my family travels; and the 34 archived hard drives of my life’s work in film & music. This is the part that is the most heartbreaking and will take the most courage to eventually accept because no amount of money can bring back the depth of that internal conversation; 2 decades developing the craft.
I was hesitant to start this GoFundMe, but after spending my career helping to tell other people’s stories through sound as a designer and re-recording mixer, I now need your help to continue, since the studio space was my means of making a living while the AirBnb in the house helped pay the mortgage that will still be due. I am about to dive into a mountain of bureaucracy, fire insurance claims, physical labor, legal mitigation, and life path decisions while also working at borrowed studios.
The loss includes both business and personal belongings - recording gear, computers and hardware, 10 monitor speakers, projectors, musical instruments, hand-carved furniture, special books, kitchenware, camping gear, tools, vinyl, and art inventory. As a first time homeowner, my beautiful little corner of the world included 149 potted plants as the start of my terraforming experiment that along with soundscapes played in the yard had brought 3 great-horned owls to live there and other small species to nest. Prior to that I helped hatch a dozen peacocks who came back for their magical visit every spring. For years I had dreamt of building a large outdoor waterwall with one of my oldest friends who recently passed before we could build it, as well as plans for building a healing room in the great oak tree, as the centerpiece of a bioenergy medicine retreat to support others. But after losing both cars, workplace, and beloved garden, I instead find myself humbly asking for your support.
(48hrs later as this was being written, the fire had consumed 5000 structures and was 0% contained. The entire town is gone). Any contribution big or small towards any of us will help us survive the next few months, bridging the gap of time we are being advised it will take for insurance companies to respond to this unprecidented disaster. Your aid would help me cover immediate costs and the parts of my overhead that will not be covered by insurance or FEMA. Thank you so much for your generosity.
PS - If you are receiving this you may be amongst the hundreds of guests who had chosen dRagoNflyLaNd for your temporary home, or may be amongst the 200 filmmakers, game designers, and musicians I have had the pleasure of creatively collaborating with to bring your projects to life. You are each a part of what had made it possible to develop and sustain this place.
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give.
For those of you who didn't experience it, I tender-heartedly share what was my world with you:
