Please help Eleanor recover after surgery
Donation protected
My dear friend Eleanor is headed into life-saving surgery soon, and there will be a long recovery period afterwards. Heart surgery is a big deal, and the healing period is incredibly important. Eleanor is an elder, and already surviving on limited income. Thankfully, her medical care is covered here in Canada, but she has no means to support herself afterwards while she recovers. We are hoping to raise funds to cover her basic expenses so that she can rest and recuperate, stress-free. Here is her request in her words:

"My name is Eleanor Joy, and due to a variety of circumstances in my life, I find myself with very limited funding and income!
After about 10 years of marriage, I became a single Mom of 2 young boys and worked hard to keep us all afloat. After leaving a nursing career, I became involved in a variety of work opportunities, ending up with a courier business in Toronto. Eventually, life brought me to the west coast, and I pursued a career in Home Care for several years. Then, when my grandchildren were quite young, I decided that, despite a loss of income, I would return to Ontario, to help out with their care. This lasted for 5 years, until they no longer needed me there, so I returned to the west coast. Ontario was just too expensive, and the Coast was calling me back. At this point, I was 75 years old/young! And I’ve been working ever since.
Now, at the age of almost 82, and still doing a bit of work as a companion, I’m experiencing a mitral valve prolapse, and due for surgery at the end of February. My recovery time will be at least 6 weeks, during which time I will have NO income, other than a basic amount with my OAP and Income Supplement. My CPP is very minimal.
As we all know, rents are very high these days, although some friends are helping me out to a certain extent, and charging much less rent than normal, it’s still more than I can afford, and especially when I will have no income due to the surgery. And of course, all the other expenses.
Any amount of a donation would be very much welcomed and appreciated!
A suggested total amount required by Feb 25, 2024 is $6,000.
Much gratitude to anyone who chooses to respond to the request."

Thank you for reading her story, and thank you for any donation you are able to make. Donations will be going directly to Eleanor, and used for food, rent, bills, and basic living expenses while she recovers. Even if you are not able to donate, if you could please share this fundraiser, it would mean a lot.
Every little bit helps! No matter how old or how young, it takes a village... and we are infinitely grateful for your support!
