Please Help Fix Eugene Organ's Wheelchair Van

Hello! My name is Katrina Baker, and for those of you may not know, I have a grandfather named Eugene Organ. Yes, that is actually his name, and he lives here in Eugene too!

My grandfather has many disabilities. In addition to being diabetic, legally blind and deaf, he has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This is an incurable disease that causes the nerves in the body to die off causing the overall loss of strength and physical feeling. This has caused him to lose the ability to walk. Despite the hardships he has faced, my grandfather continues to be the strongest, most hardworking, caring and charismatic person I know. With a wife of 50 years, 3 children, and 6 grandchildren, My grandfather has always been well-loved by his family and the community.

After a long career in education, Eugene used his academic influence and personal experience to advocate for people with disabilities. He later became the director for the Oregon Disabilities Commission and played a direct role in passing local laws that support people with disabilities, all while raising a family of three. From education to civil rights advocacy, my grandfather has dedicated his life to supporting his community. I am now asking the community to support him.

The ramp motor in his wheelchair accessible van is completely busted. This is the part of the van that allows the wheelchair ramp to me lowered and lifted. With it being broken, my grandfather can no longer load his wheel chair into the car and is now limitied in terms of his transportation.

We are hoping to have car fixed in time for my grandfather to join the family on vacation later this summer. But without the van, this won't be a possibility. If you could please take the time to share this or donate to our cause, it would be beyond appreciated.
