Please help get Kristina home

Donation protected
On Monday 24th June, Kristina (38), Rob (that’s me) and our two sons Cameron and Oliver, travelled to Salou in Spain for a holiday to enjoy the sun, beaches, theme park and more.

The evening was uneventful, in a good way. We had a lovely walk along the beach, had ice cream and a few cocktails before heading back to the hotel to rest. Everything was perfect.

Here's the last photo we took that evening on the beach...

The next morning, 12 hours later, Kristina had a stroke.

Kristina is currently in a hospital in Tarragona, Spain, in intensive care. She has lost her speech, feeling and movement on her right-hand side and responding to communication is a challenge currently. The hospital has been brilliant, but as soon as she's able we need your help to get her home.

This fund is dedicated to Getting Kristina Home ❤️ and where possible, to aid her recovery and help cover expenses for me being close to her until she’s in the UK.

We’re exploring costs for medical repatriation, but initial quotes for this level of care suggest that we’ll need up to £20,000. This figure may change as it’s based on Kristina’s condition at the time and where might be best to take her in the UK to aid her recovery.

We’re asking for your support to donate what you can to help Kristina, and to bring my wife, best friend and soul mate home.

Why does this cost so much?
Medical repatriation allows seriously ill people to be moved via a team of medical experts to a location of the patient or family’s choosing. We are exploring options for where would be the best place for Kristina, but the costs can be considerably high.

Shouldn't travel health insurance cover this?
Kristina tried to get travel health insurance a week before this holiday. She was refused any form of cover and told that due to her various other health conditions, they couldn't insure her as any new condition could be linked to them. So we decided to proceed with the holiday anyway. After all, what could go wrong…

Kristina, in a nutshell
Those close to Kristina know that she is strong, both in body and soul. Her caring spirit inspires others to make the world a better place. And, despite her challenging medical history, would always go about her day with the most beautiful and infectious smile.

For those that haven’t met her, here are some photos of Kristina showing a few of these traits…

‍An incredible mother to Cameron and Oliver
She has brought them up to be super smart, kind and caring, just like her.

‍‍❤️‍ The best wife
We'd joke that she knows me better than I know myself, but I think it's true, especially when I'm struggling to decide on what to have for dessert!

A passionate NHS worker
Working for over a decade as an Operating Department Practitioner, Kristina would never sacrifice care quality and her empathy towards patients is the perfect package for this incredible service.

‍‍A wigstagrammer promoting hair loss positivity
From the age of seventeen Kristina started losing her hair due to Alopecia, which was roughly the same time we started dating each other. We used to joke that she’s allergic to me. But that was never proven!

She’s become a wig and hair loss expert. Starting a new Instagram page over a year ago, she quickly became part of the wider community dedicating her time to helping and advising others with Alopecia, as well as cancer patients with hair loss.

More recently she started looking into setting up her own initiative. Not intending to compete with the “big” wig companies, but to provide wigs to people that struggle to find hair that suits them, on a wig that fits them. People such as Alopecia and cancer patients, or also the elderly with hair loss. She was excited to help the community with hair better suited for them.

An avid bookstagrammer
For many years, Kristina has been obsessed with books. She couldn’t put a book down until it was finished (like I can be with biscuits for those that know me).
She’s part of a large community of people and made many amazing friends over the years from all corners of the world.
If you’re a bookstagrammer reading this… thank you. You helped her through some difficult times.

Completely obsessed with Halloween
Like, really obsessed! It's her favourite holiday

‍‍Cat lover
Here's our super old cat, Maximus. She'll be missing him terribly!

❤️ Charity work
Despite Kristina’s many health conditions, she’s taken on various charity events that pushed her boundaries for the greater cause. She'd also say that the best way to get her to exercise was for charity.

Only the day before her stroke, she even asked me about undertaking a million steps challenge later this year. I believe she would have signed up for and achieved this, as hard as it would have been for her. If she can do something to benefit others, you can be sure she'd give it a go.

Born and bred Isle of Wighter and growing up
Kristina was born on the Isle of Wight, in the south of England. Which is also where we met and had our first child, Cameron. She studied at the Isle of Wight college before we moved to Plymouth where we both continued our studies.

Kristina first studied Adult Nursing at Saltash College in Cornwall before going to the University of Plymouth where she studied a BSc in Animal Science. This was followed by a BSc as an Operating Department Practitioner, where her current career as working in operating theatres began.

❤️All of Kristina’s family are desperately trying to see her home safe. ❤️

If you have story you’d like to contribute to this page which might resonate her personality to others, please get in touch.

Thank you for your time…
If you’re donating to this fund, thank you so very much. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

I hope one day Kristina will see this and the amazing support she had from it.

I understand that times are hard, and if you’re unable to donate to this fund right now, I get it. Kristina will get it. You can still help by sharing this page far and wide on your social media accounts, and to your family, friends and colleagues. And if you’re willing, I’d be happy to chat about any fundraising events to help generate further donations.

Thank you so much for your help!
