Anthony Oxley, from Ryhill near Wakefield, was killed in an accident while serving with the British Army in Cyprus on June 14, 2016, when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a vehicle driven by a US serviceman at RAF Akrotiri. Despite the fact that the area the accident took place in UK Sovereign Based Area, the United States Air Force (USAF) assumed authority for the investigation.
Sally Oxley is still searching for answers over her husband's death in 2016.
A 2018 inquest in Wakefield recorded a narrative verdict and left "many unanswered questions", now we have another taking place in Republic of Cyprus.
So, we have two inquests, a second inquest which Sally has requested the Attorney General of England and Wales for permission to request a fresh inquest be directed by the High Court.
"Before there was the lack of evidence - there was nothing. Now we've got statements. Now there's witnesses. They all need to be called an examined." In the UK and the Republic of Cyprus.
Let's talk about "BIG OX" the gentle giant and always ‘the Gent’.
While serving in the Military since 1997 he collected an array of medals for tours from Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan just to name a few. As well as LSGC (Long Service and Good Conduct) Medal even though this surprised his wife and most of all himself with him been the cheeky chap he was.
Through his career he was Drum Major for various Battalion’s and wore his sash with pride. OX was the only Drum Major where his Mace was bigger than his wife. With him a towering 6'6 and Sally a mere 5'2 but we certainly knew who wore the trousers and so did Ox.
As much as the hero he was for his country he was the biggest hero to his family. Always putting them first, a perfect father to Honiiee Mai and Sally's three other children. Ox who never saw Honiiee Mai's first day at school or will never see her last day at school and will never be able to walk her down the bridal isle in her wedding dress. That has now been taken away from them both as Ox always talked about the boys that will never be good enough for his little girl.
In Sally's eyes Ox was the Best of the Best. His laugh was contagious you either laughed with him or at him as he was forever the Joker.
That's before we get on about the "illegal (train style) Car Horn with everyone knowing he was in camp before he even arrived there. The Big man with a massive personality and even bigger heart.
I could write stories all day about Ox but I'm here asking for your Help.
After nearly seven years since his devastating death of Oxley the family have been left with unanswered questions and feel the door has been closed on them on every occasion.
Sally has dealt with this with absolutely no emotional or financial help from the MOD, even after Ox serving 21 years for his country.
In January Sally was put in touch with Christopher Stanley from KRW LAW. He and they have been brilliant throughout and have since taken on the case found many discrepancies with the witness statements from the USA serviceman driver and passenger, SBA police, emergency services and witnesses to the collision. KRW has acted pro bono to date – that is not sustainable.
A fresh inquest in England has been requested due to new evidence and documents. These were relied upon by the Coroner in the first inquest but disclosed to Sally. The Coroner explained he could not disclose until the MOD have given permission. The MOD have advised that Sally needed permission from United States Air Force (USAF) before they can disclose to Sally. The USAF still will not disclose these documents also after many requests to USAF.
Which raises more question as to what are the authorities hiding? These include the USAF and the MOD. The MOD gave jurisdiction to the immediate investigation into the collision to the USAF even though the collision occurred in British sovereign territory.
On 25 April 2023, Sally went to District Court in Nicosia armed with witness statements of all involved including the USAF driver and his passenger and the SBA police reports in her possession. Finally, she was going to get the answers she has long waited for. Sally was told by the judge that she now has to come back on the 13 June 2023 with legal representation.
The 13 June is only six weeks away and also one day before the 7th year anniversary of Ox's death also three days after Honiiee Mai's 9th Birthday.
Sally is also expected to fund this herself as she done ever since his death.
With this involving three countries and two jurisdictions this is very much a David and Goliath struggle.
With the MOD were more than happy to allow USAF to take over the investigation which only raises more questions as to why? Since the collision was on UK Sovereign Base and Ox was serving British soldier.
When the British media press approached the MOD for comment they again refuse to speak unless the get permission from USAF. The USAF will not disclose or discuss anything with Sally, the media or the MOD.
I have set up the funding page to help Sally and the family to assist in the campaign to help find the truth and justice for Drum Major Anthony Oxley as the legal process unfolds.
We are nearly seven years into this and only now does it look like she will finally get the answers she's deserves. But only if she can find funding for two legal teams one here in the UK and one now in Cyprus.
We would like to thank you immensely for any amount you can DONATE however big or small any amount will help with all these legal fees.
If you have a moment, please donate and Share, Share, Share. Please feel free to take a look at the social media pages we have also set of to help get the Truth and Justice for Ox.
Please bear in mind she has only 6 weeks until the next hearing in Nicosia and she needs funding in place before so she can get legal representation.
Once again thank you for your generosity, kindness, time and support.
I will update this page regularly as the cases progress.
