Hello, Everyone. I am creating this page on behalf of my sister, Jasmine, and brother-in-law, Greg Cervantes. They have been dealt with devastating news regarding my 3-year-old nephew, Jayme.
In late October, Jayme contracted a terrible stomach virus. The virus caused issues with his appetite, and Jayme no longer desired to eat or drink like he usually had. For Jasmine and Greg, getting Jayme to eat his meals suddenly became more than just a toddler entering a picky eating stage. Doctors initially told them that the appetite struggles were a result of his recent stomach virus and that it would take him some time to recover and regain his appetite. Due to Jayme's sensory issues, communication and understanding of his needs were vital to Jasmine and Greg during his doctor visits.
In November, ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, Jayme's appetite issues persisted. His stomach soon became very hard and distended (swollen). Alarmed by this evolution, Jasmine and Greg immediately went to the hospital, where a CT scan and x-rays revealed that a large mass had taken over his left kidney.
The discovery of Jayme's tumor meant that immediate medical attention was required. Days before the Thanksgiving holiday, Jayme was admitted to the hospital. Jasmine and Greg were told that surgey would be performed first thing Monday morning to remove the tumor and determine how severely his young body was impacted. Following the surgery, doctors informed Jasmine and Greg that Jayme was diagnosed with a Stage Two Wilms Tumor. The tumor's growth was so severe that after its surgical removal, the doctors discovered that they were not only forced to remove Jayme's left kidney (where the tumor had initial been discovered), but parts of both his diaphragm and colon as well.
Despite the initial shock and trauma surrounding Jayme’s diagnosis and emergency surgery, it seemed as though everything was going well. Jayme’s team of doctors were hopeful that following a brief recovery period from his initial surgery that he would soon be able to begin his chemotherapy. Unfortunately, those plans have been delayed. Due to unexpected complications following his tumor removal, Jayme has once again been admitted to the hospital and Jasmine and Greg have been informed that he will need to have an additional surgery for obstructions discovered in his small intestines.
As a result of those obstructions, Jayme will now need to have an ileostomy bag until his chemotherapy is completed and his young body is strong enough to have his colon and small intestines connected in a future surgery. Following the surgical placement of his ileostomy bag, Jayme’s doctors are hopeful that this procedure will help his intestines heal without further complications, and that Jasmine and Greg can turn their focus towards supporting him during his upcoming chemotherapy treatment.
We know that Jayme has a long fight ahead. What the family needs most right now is prayers. So please, pray for Jayme, Jasmine, Greg, Makayla, and Gregory Jr. (He is 7 years old and misses his little brother and wonders why he can’t come home.) Prior to this medical nightmare, the family was in transition of new employment.
Between Jayme’s previous hospital stays, his upcoming chemotherapy treatment and other healthcare expenses, this has added an unexpected financial burden on Jasmine and Greg’s young family during this time. If you are able to contribute a monetary donation of any denomination, it would be greatly appreciated.
