“Getting diagnosed with cancer has been a real wake up call for me. My goal is not only to beat cancer but be transformed by this fight and become the kind of person that will inspire my two boys, my family, friends, and the whole community.”
-Jeff Osborne
Dearest friends, family and community,
Most of you know our brother Jeff Osborne. Many of you know his life has been an ongoing struggle.
Jeff has battled mental illness for over 25 years. Bipolar Disorder, OCD, and debilitating anxiety issues cost him his marriage, numerous job opportunities, and too often his peace of mind.
For many of us, 2020 was pretty terrible! For Jeff and my family, it was the worst year we can remember. In March, when the first wave of COVID hit, Jeff was an Uber driver at the time and his income fell to zero. The stimulus helped him pay rent and stay above water, but he developed a severe paranoia over COVID and became somewhat anti social. He stopped eating consistent meals out of fear he might get COVID from touching food containers. We noticed significant weight loss and increasing fear of his environment.
Unfortunately during this time of COVID, Jeff feared the risk of visiting the doctor. We learned this has been one of the unspoken tragedies of the COVID 19 disease. People with mental illness have suffered tremendously this year!
Jeff complained of a lump in his back about 6 months ago. This is about the time we were pushing and nearly dragging him to see a doctor.
Our family hoped we could help him figure out increasing his medication for anxiety/ OCD and then maybe with some decreased paranoia, he would get the lump checked out.
About 3 weeks ago, Jeff went in for an MRI and we were told he had cancer and possibly a very rare form called Sarcoma. At the same time, Jeff found out he needs several crowns, root canals, and cavities filled before starting chemotherapy to make sure his immune system is not compromised by any lingering bacterial infections in his body. It has been such an unfathomable journey with Jeff and we just couldn’t imagine him suffering anymore. And then Cancer.
The Osborne family never gives up! We have rolled up our sleeves and started a journey we call "Jeff's Life Transformation!"
His prognosis is better than expected. He has Lymphoma and will be undergoing 6 months of treatment with the hope of full recovery!! But in this battle, we are not just fighting to beat Cancer. We are fighting to help Jeff transform his life and leave a legacy he is proud of for his two boys.
Jeff will be unable to work during his treatment and following months post treatment until we are sure he is cancer free and he can discontinue chemotherapy. The costs involved with supporting his two boys, all the medical, dental and household related bills will be exponential!
Our family has been humbled, exhausted, overwhelmed, and deeply saddened by Jeff's life struggles. In this moment, we are filled with love and hope, vulnerably sharing our struggle with all of you. We appreciate all of your love, well wishes and financial support as this effort to beat Cancer and transform Jeff's life will take a village.
We look forward to celebrating the recovery, transformation and brilliance of Jeff Osborne with all of you!
