Please Help Kailee's Heart
Donation protected
Kailee was born in 2003 with multiple heart conditions: 1. Congenital Heart Failure, 2. Tetralogy of Fallot and 3. Pulmonary Atresia, along with a quarter sized heart murmur located between the bottom two chambers of her heart. These heart defects meant that she had issues getting oxygen to her lungs and the force of her oxygenated and deoxygenated blood was flowing back and forth without the necessary chambers and valves to regulate the it. By age seven months, she had to undergo her first open heart surgery to replace her Pulmonary Artery and Valve, and to put a mesh graft in the bottom two chambers to correct the heart murmur.
She did well during her first surgery and over the next six years, lived life as a normal kid, minus the medicines and certain activities her mom wouldn't allow her to participate in for fear of stressing her heart too much. Overall, her development was as expected.
In her sixth year, Kailee's family was once again informed that it was time to undergo open heart surgery. Her donor pulmonary artery and valve had become weak and worn and her body wasn't getting the oxygen it needed. So, at six years old, Kailee was put under again to receive a new Pulmonary Artery and Valve. Very similar to the first time, she did exceptionally well and has now been active and healthy over the last six years.
Kailee went in for her checkup last week and the doctors once again informed her mother that it was immediately time for surgery. However, this time MIGHT be different! Instead of open heart surgery, she may be a candidate for the Melody Valve replacement, which is a much less invasive surgery. Either way though, she needs the surgery this month because her oxygen levels in her lungs are at 25% of a normal person's.
This is where I'm hoping you guys can help. After Kailee's insurance kicks in and pays their portion, Kailee's family will still owe $17,000 for the cheaper, less invasive surgery, and potentially, significantly more for the full open heart surgery if she isn't a candidate for the Melody Valve Replacement. They are meant to pay the amount not covered by insurance before the surgery on November 29th, 2016. If the family had the choice to wait for surgery until they could save the money, they would, but time is not a luxury Kailee has. And all previous surgery expenses have wiped them out to the point where this one is impossible to fund on their own.
I've known Kailee since she was born. I'm best friends with her mom, who is genuinely the sweetest, most optimistic person I know. If you can, PLEASE (!) spare a few dollars. Come November 29th, we won't know what to do if we don't have the money to hand over to the hospital administration. Any and all of your help, the help of your family and friends, would be so valued, so significant, and so appreciated! Also, please forward this to all of your friends!
All my love,
