Hi, my name is Vickie and I am starting this GoFundMe project for my best friends nephew and his family.
Kaleb was born on Sept 3, 2021. His conditions were EA/TEF, cleft lip/palate, hypotonia, heart murmur, enlarged kidney, and many other issues. About 10 minutes after Kaleb was born, his oxygen became low. After checking, it was discovered he had an esophageal atresia/tef. Kaleb was sent to surgery at just 5 hrs. old to repair that. He was intubated for about 10 days. He then developed a cephalomhematoma that calcified because doctors could turn his head or it would have ripped apart his internal stitches. He also had a feeding tube. He developed a DVT in his right leg and is taking blood thinner injections twice a day. He had surgery to remove the cephalohematoma at about a month old and was intubated for another 4 days. He was in the NICU at OK City Children's Hospital for 7.5 weeks and came home with a feeding pump and apnea monitor.
In January, he had his first cleft lip surgery. His esophagus was dilated, and placed a mic-key button tube in his stomach. He was again in ICU for a week. On Valentine's day, he was rushed to the ER because he was vomiting blood. He stayed in the hospital another week. He has had many esophageal dilations, each being under anesthesia. He has had both physical and speech therapy.
He has also had ABR tests done on his hearing and found that he has conductive hearing loss. April 13, tubes were placed in his ears, and he had another ABR test. The tubes were unsuccessful in helping with his hearing. He now has profound hearing loss in both ears. After more scans, the plan is to put in cochlear implants later.
April 27th, he had surgery for his final lip and nasal repair. Shortly after this surgery, he was again admitted into the ICU for breathing difficulties. Although the surgery went well, he couldn't keep his O2 level up. After 2 days in the ICU, he was put back on the ventilator and given paralytics to give his body time to rest and heal. During this time, another DVT was discovered in his other leg. May 3, he was unparalyzed. Within a few hours, he vomited and aspirated a lot of milk that also got into his ventilator. His O2 dropped to zero, he began to turn blue, and his heart stopped beating. The doctors and nurses immediately rushed in and began CPR and bagging him. His heart stopped for 10 minutes. He was revived, and a new ventilator was directly placed. He is currently undergoing numerous tests to check all of his organ functions.
After he returns home from this surgery, he is facing a minimum of 10 more surgeries.
His mother Monica, is constantly at his side and his father is trying tois work all he can in between all of little Kaleb's set backs.
This is a terrible struggle on this young family. Please, if you can, try to donate something to help them in this horrible situation. God bless, little Kaleb and his entire family..... and God bless you for reading his story. Thank you!
