Urgent Life-Saving Heart Surgery for Keena

Despite facing health challenges since grade school, Keena has consistently displayed resilience and determination. Her ambitious spirit has driven her to pursue her goals and extend a helping hand to those around her. Whether it was lending a listening ear, offering assistance, or contributing to community projects, Keena's generosity has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who know and love her.

Now, our beloved Keena finds herself in a time of need. Living in Jamaica, where the cost of surgery must be paid upfront regardless of urgency, Keena is facing a unique challenge in accessing the life-saving heart surgery she urgently requires. With her trademark grace, courage, and humility, Keena is reaching out to the community she has so selflessly served.

Keena was only in grade 4 when she was diagnosed with heart problems. The doctors believed and it was our hope that the condition would have resolved on its own. Recent events, however, have taken an alarming turn and now have us desperately seeking positive solutions.

First, at aged 23, Keena experienced a heartbreaking miscarriage during her first pregnancy. She then had a second pregnancy at 24 and tragedy struck again with another miscarriage at three months. After she lost her second child her health took a severe downturn, leading to hospitalization for abdominal pains and unexpected complications. Keena is now 25 and has spent the better part of the last year going back and forth to the doctor to determine her health situation.

Extensive testing revealed that Keena has two holes in her heart, one small and one large. The large hole is the one that creates the condition that requires urgent surgery for her well-being. Keena and her family have tried to continue financing her numerous trips for medical care and realize they are unable to do it on their own, but with the generosity of others and a cake sale put on by the family they managed to raise $3,000 for further testing. This was not nearly enough for the actual heart surgery that she needs. By themselves they are unable to expeditiously find the total cost of the life-saving surgery, which including necessary equipment and travel expenses is estimated to be approximately $20,000.

Keena’s serious health challenges has significantly affected her ability to lead a normal life, continue to pursue her goals, and care for herself and her family. Daily she experiences periods of irregular heart beats, heart palpitations, chest pains, breathing problems, fatigue, and sometimes swelling of her hands and feet. Her resilience and determination to overcome these challenges are truly inspiring, but she needs our help.

Time is of the essence for Keena to undergo this life-saving surgery. Keena was told that if it takes too long to get the surgery done, the outcome may be dire.
