Dear Friends and Patrons,
Uncle John’s Cafe would like to thank you for over 50 years of support and patronage. We have truly been blessed with amazing customers, neighbors, and friends since opening the restaurant. Many of you guys have been long time customers even before I took over. Some you are regulars from the financial district, jewelry district, Metro LA, LADWP, Elevator workers, USC, FIDM, LAPD, Construction guys, Electricians, and etc. And some are my residential customers from the new apartment complexes, And some of you guys know us from the show "Buzzfeed: Worth It".
My family took over Uncle John’s Café 4 years ago and have invested so much into this restaurant. We are a family owned and operated restaurant with the focus on family. Many of our staff have been with us for years and have truly become family to us. If you have dined at Uncle John’s Cafe then you know how we strive to make each and every one of our guest feel like family as well. Now we are asking our Uncle John’s family to help those who have served and taken care of you stay afloat as we all navigate these trying times.
As you all are experiencing the economic ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic we all are facing difficult and uncertain times during the forced closure of all restaurants.
As of 3/16/2020 all City of Los Angeles restaurants were ordered to shut down all dine-in service which decimated salaries and wages for our staff. While we recognize how tough and imperative it was for that decision to be made it has put those who we consider family in a tough financial spot.
I have remained open since, using all my savings to keep my restaurant afloat. I could of stretched my savings a tiny bit longer if I closed down temporarily. But knowing that my kitchen staff wouldn’t be able to support their children and families left me with no choice to stay open. They are my family and I need to look out for them too. I don’t have much left in my savings so embarrassed as I am, I’m asking for your help.
We have started this employee relief fund to help our Uncle John’s family through this challenging period. All donations from this fund will go directly to support our staff (and their families) during this crisis and time of unemployment. The money that we are requesting will be split among all staff members and will serve to help them make ends meet until the dine-in ban is lifted and we can get back to business as usual. No contribution is too small, whether its $5 or $200, we are grateful for you support!
We thank you in advance for any contributions you are able to make and look forward to coming back from this and serving even better than before. We are so grateful.
