Meet Koa ✨
We would like to introduce you all to the beautiful Koa Gibson, a gorgeous 3 year old Geelong local in need of our help.
Koa was diagnosed with Lissencephaly at 5 weeks old, a rare and incurable neurological condition which is debilitating and life-limiting. A 1 in 100,000 Lissencephaly diagnosis means that little Koa may never be able to walk, talk, eat or even laugh. In addition to her primary diagnosis Koa also suffers from advanced cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease, and a long list of other related conditions. Koa’s days are filled with often painful seizures, therapies, medicine, and nursing care.
Koa is now in palliative care at home and the Gibsons do not know how much time they have left with their little girl. Their main goal as a family is to give Koa as many joyful experiences and memories as a family as they can. Koa’s family is dedicated to increasing her quality of life by taking her to her favourite places such as the beach. Without appropriate transport, Koa isn’t able to see the world outside of her own home as she cannot be safely transported in a regular vehicle, and her very heavy wheelchair cannot be lifted or fit into a regular car.
It is our hope that we can raise enough funds to give the Gibsons the opportunity to buy their own wheelchair accessible car, so that Koa can experience the world the way that other healthy children do.
Our big dream for the Gibsons is to be able to have a holiday as a family, a feat that has been near impossible to achieve to date.
In addition to this the Gibsons medical bills are absolutely huge, including the electricity bills required to run her medical equipment 24 hours a day. This equipment is quite literally keeping Koa here with us and as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately the NDIS have made some terrifying cuts to Koa’s funding by 55%, leaving this already struggling family facing an absolute financial nightmare.
Koa’s parents (Aleisha and Ben) are beautiful people. They are friendly, kind, and hard working parents of their three beautiful daughters. Koa is truly blessed to have been born into such a wonderful family. They have had to continue living their lives without ever asking for a handout and both work whilst caring for Koa and their two other girls, Ava (6) and Sky (10m). Caring for Koa is a 24/7 job as she needs around the clock medication and care, leaving Aleisha and Ben to cope with immense sleep deprivation as well as the emotional stress of their load.
So now we ask that if you are touched by Koa’s story and are willing to help us raise some funds to assist the wonderful Gibson family that you contribute to our GoFundMe.
Any donations will make a huge difference.
We may not be able to mend the broken hearts of this family, but together we can aim to remove a portion of their financial stress.
All donations will go directly to the Gibsons to support them buying a wheelchair accessible car, paying medical expenses and hopefully, a vacation that they can treasure for the rest of their lives.
Please feel free to share Koa’s story so that we can reach as much of the community as possible.
Thankyou all so much
