Losing Lauren
Cancer sucks!!
It was in late April that Lauren felt an unfamiliar pain in her side. A trip to the doctor which quickly led to a trip to the hospital which led to an agonizing 3 months of constant pain and a downhill path that ended in Esophogeal cancer taking her life.
Cancer sucks.
For Mike and their kids, Lyndsey, Kimmy, and Isaac, its been a devastating blow. Lauren was the source of energy and spirit in the house. She loved and protected her children fiercely and was the first to jump when anything was needed. The impact of Lauren being sick affected the family immediately. With the girls off on their own and starting their own families, and Isaac preparing for his final year of college, almost all of Lauren's care was on Mike - as it should be, they have been together for over 25 years.

Asking for help
My brother is as proud man, hardworking and self sacrificing. He would never consider his lot in life any worse or better than anyone else's. But as his brother, I am asking if people can help.
Mike is self-employed. If he is not working, there is no money coming in. The first couple months, Mike worked partial days and then spent his nights at the hospital by Lauren's side. For the last month of Lauren's life, he was by her side the entire time.
Mike is convinced he will climb his way out of this, and I know he will work his ass off to try and overcome the lost wages, medical bills, memorial costs, etc... But if people can help in any way, it will help ease Mike's burden as he adjusts to this new life without Lauren.
