Please Help Lay Garrett To Rest

On Saturday October 30, 2021 Garrett went to the hospital. He tested positive for covid and at the same time, we found out that he was end stage kidney failure. They admitted him and started running more tests. On Monday, November 1st, he had surgery to put in his dialysis catheter for dialysis and had his first dialysis session. That's also the day he was put on oxygen. He was in good spirits and still joking around. Each following day his oxygen was doubled. He became less coherent and gradually sicker. One Sunday November 7th, he was moved to the ICU so he could receive a medication that could only be given in the ICU. He originally responded well to the new treatment but then on Wednesday November 10th, I got the phone call that I had dreaded, Garrett was being put on the ventilator. Again he responded well at first, but then started the rollercoaster. One day he was showing improvement and then the next he would decline. Every day was a trial. On Tuesday November 16, I got the phone call saying he was not doing well and his heart was in trouble. The Dr told us to come down to the hospital. We finally got to see Garrett. But the man in the bed was hardly my husband. So many machines, tubes and wires keeping him alive. It broke my heart because I knew that is not what Garrett wanted. The Dr came in and told me that I had to make a decision. Do I be selfish in the hopes that he pulls through and stays here on earth with me, but will never be able to do the things he loves again. Or do I let him go, put an end to his pain and suffering. Do I let him go be with his little sister Patty, his two favorite pups, Bud and Duke, his best friend Robert, his nephew Joseph and the many other loved one that we've lost? Watching him lie there, motionless, machines breathing for him, we knew what needed to be done. Bailey, Becky and I made the decision. The chaplain came in, said a prayer for Garrett with us and offered guidance. Then the nurses came in and adjusted his medications, took out the ventilator tubes and made him comfortable. I put on Spotify and played his favorite Bush songs. I played our wedding song and reassured him that it was ok to go. I played his favorite rock band song, Spirit in the Sky and within minutes he took his last breath. He passed at 9:06 pm. Garrett's wishes were to be cremated when the time came. I would like to have a simple memorial service for him. Covid has swept through our household and taken a lot from us and now it has taken our hearts. I am asking for help making Garrett's last wishes happen. Nothing more nothing less. So please, if you can, anything and everything helps. Thank you and God Bless.
