Hello Friends and Horse Lovers Everywhere! We have some sad news, and want your help right away if you can assist with support.
Leslie Desmond, World renowned horse trainer and co-author of the classic horse training manual, “True Horsemanship Through Feel” with Master Horseman, Bill Dorrance (1906-1999), suffered a devastating loss January 17th. Her work truck caught on fire driving back from a veterinary lameness conference in Ocala, Florida.
After a seat belt malfunction, she managed to get out between explosions under the hood that set the truck ablaze and destroyed her vehicle and some of the contents, including professional video production equipment, books, clothing, and more.
As a dedicated trainer since the early 1970s, Leslie has generously given much of her time (with no charge) to horse rescues, apprentices, adult beginners, youths in need of support for their horse dreams, and ambitious young trainers who could not afford instruction.
In the course of this extraordinary generosity, she has improved the lives that thousands of discarded show horses, abused and hungry horses, misunderstood, poorly trained and injured horses had formerly known.
For the last 45 years she has given thousands of horse lovers the key to understanding and successfully applying the feel-based horse handling and riding techniques she learned from noted horsemen Bill Dorrance, Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, and every horse that she worked with over 6 decades.
Leslie continues to support disadvantaged and challenged riders or horses with her well-known patience and vast knowledge.
So, what now?
It seems like it's our turn to support Leslie in whatever ways we can NOW. Let's help her recover from this as quickly as possible.
