Please Help Linda Walk Again

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am raising money on behalf of our friend Linda who I met the fall of 2019. She agreed to babysit my infant son at a rate I could afford while I was in class for my first semester of nursing school. She was even totally accepting of the fact that I was a new mom, had a lot of anxiety about leaving my son alone with a caretaker and came to the school and sat with him in a common area so I could come check in on breaks, nurse him etc.

Linda has had a challenging year for her health. What began as a hospitalization infection lead to prolonged immobilization and this caused her muscle tone to deteriorate and has caused her significant difficulty walking and standing independently. She has, since June, been bounced around to several rehab facilities and has at every step of the way been the recipient of prejudice based on her weight, and harsh and unkind treatment on the part of her caregivers.

After 100 days in a skilled nursing home, she has lost 107 lbs and is ready to return home. She has been gifted a bariatric bed by a medical supply charity and she has been approved for out patient physical therapy at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. She is eager to get home to her dogs and to her 12-year-old grandson, Noah, for whom she is normally a primary caregiver. This fund will help her buy a mattress for the bed and defray the cost of in home caretaker who can help with ambulating, changing, bathing, using the washroom etc.
