Please help Lucas Kenny on his road to recovery

“I am brave. I am strong. Everything is going to be okay.”
On January 24th, 2023, 10-year-old Lucas Kenny went for a routine eye appointment where after a short exam, his mother was told to immediately take Lucas to the IWK. Once reaching the IWK, doctors found a very large tumor growing on Lucas’s brain. Without hesitation Lucas was scheduled for an emergency brain surgery and on January 26th, 2023 at 8:00am, Lucas underwent a 19-hour surgery to remove the large tumor from his brain. Prior to his surgery Lucas repeated the mantra “I am brave. I am strong. Everything is going to be okay.” Lucas was right. The surgery was successfully completed, without any complications along the way. The neurosurgeon who worked on Lucas said that the tumor he removed from Lucas’s brain was the largest of its kind, that he has ever seen. When Lucas awoke the next day, his parents, Jessica and Matt, were beyond happy, and relieved that Lucas was able respond to commands, move his arms and legs, and talk to them.
Lucas has a long and unknown road ahead of him. Doctors estimate it will take Lucas roughly 3 months to recover from his surgery. That being said, all funds raised through this campaign will go directly to Lucas’ parents, Jessica, and Matt. The money raised will allow them to spend more time with Lucas, to help him through the recovery process and enable them to be present for him, without the distraction of finances. They will also be used on transportation to and from the IWK, as well as food and accommodations while in Halifax for check-ups and medical visits.
As onlookers we often feel helpless in situations like this, but we don’t have to feel helpless because together we have the ability to gift Lucas and his family with two of the most valuable gifts ever; time and family.
Thank you,
Brandy Borden (Lucas’s teacher)
Lucas’ classmates started thinking about what they could do for Lucas and his family as soon as they heard about his condition. Starting a Go-fund-me campaign is just one of the many ideas that came up while trying to think of ideas. Lucas is well loved by his classmates. They wish for him to have a speedy recovery and are looking forward to the day he can return to our classroom again. As am I.<3
