Thank You for helping Lyra Greyhound (now closed).

Hello, my name is Sharon, a volunteer for Greyhound Trust Swindon. I'm so very sad to be writing this but am desperately seeking help for dear Lyra a very special, poorly greyhound. Lyra, following a worrying couple of weeks of vet visits, has last evening been referred and admitted into hospital to investigate fluid in her legs and abdomen, low protein in her blood.

I have known Lyra since 2019 when she retired from racing and was adopted, the sweetest, kindest most beautiful soul, so very precious. Early 2022 a change in family circumstances led Lyra back into my foster care. At the grand age of 8yrs and with some pesky corns I happily accepted she may be staying sometime... but then the magic happened.

Lyra, being the most wonderful greyhound ambassador accompanied me on a home visit to a lovely young lady named Jess, living with her parents, seeking a greyhound. It was the most memorable visit, love at first sight, they all fell madly in love with Lyra, corns and all. We set about return visits and secured an official adoption date. Tragically a short time after Jess informed me that her lovely mum had died suddenly, it was such a terrible shock. Jess shared how much she loved Lyra, how much she wanted Lyra to be hers, how her dear mum had been so excited to have Lyra join the family. It was meant to be, Lyra was formally adopted 03rd August 22.

I truly believe Lyra was sent to comfort Jess, the most wonderful owner who has even resolved Lyra's corns. Last evening Jess wrote, 'Lyra's got me through the worst six months of my life after losing mum in July, I can't bare to lose her too'.

Jess has Lyra insured, (to pay 20% of costs due to her age), understandably the vet charges, referral and ongoing investigations will soon pass the insured limit. Lyra is receiving the best care.

It would mean the world to raise some much-needed funds to help Lyra as she battles her illness, knowing that we can try our very best to get her on the road to recovery and home with Jess where she belongs. Any help will be truly appreciated. Thank you.
