Please help me bring my brother home

This is without doubt the hardest thing I have ever had to write, the type of thing you read about but never expect to happen to your family. My brother Jack is 21 years old, a loving, sensitive and thoughtful character, popular with all that know him and is currently studying at university for his nursing degree. Whilst on his dream summer holiday, back packing round Thailand, the family received a phone call that nobody wants to receive from his friend, to say that Jack had fallen from a third storey balcony. He was taken to hospital by ambulance in a critical condition and underwent several emergency operations to repair internal damage to his spleen, liver and kidneys. Within 24hrs of hearing the news our parents, Joy and Ian had flown out to Thailand to be with their son, as I’m sure you agree, any parents would.

After dealing with his life-threatening conditions, doctors carried out further tests and have found that Jack also has a bleed in his lungs and fractures to his pelvis and neck. He spent over a week in ICU before being moved to a regular ward where he continues to receive on going treatment for his injuries. Doctors have advised that due to the extensive injuries Jack has received he will not be fit to travel in the short term, and when he is able to travel, that he will need a medical repatriation.

Jack did have a travel insurance policy in place for the trip and my parents have been in regular contact with the travel insurance company and the British Embassy in Thailand. Unfortunately following their investigations, the insurers have deemed that due to the circumstances of the incident they will not be covering the claim. We are looking to appeal this decision but are heartbroken that we are left with total costs expected to exceed £40,000, this is not an amount that we as a family can afford.

To help end this nightmare we need Jack back home to the UK, where we can get him the help and support he will undoubtably need for his continued recovery. We would be eternally gratefully for any donations received and ensure all will go towards covering Jack’s medical expenses and getting my best friend back where he belongs.

Thank you for your time, please help me bring my brother home.
