Please Help Me Get A Powerchair

This is something I hate doing. I always think someone will try and say I'm "using 9/11" to bring in money. When I was in the nursing home, I held a fund-raiser so I could get an apartment. Within 3 days, I raised enough for an apartment. The one I've been living in for more than a year now. It was because of your generosity that enabled me to do so and will always be something I will never forget. It made me feel as though I've done SOME GOOD in this world for that to have happened. I may be an advocate for 9/11 Justice, but like it says on my twitter page "if you need to label me, call me a human being." Yep, I'm one of them too, and unfortunately I am one that has a lot of issues to deal with.

Some of you that follow me know that I have Cauda Equine Syndrome because I broke my back on 5/22/2013 (the 10th anniversary of that happening is coming up. Hooray). I'm basically half paralyzed from my waist down. Half of my enormous muscles no longer work. I can only feel the top part of my leg, not the bottom. I can no longer stand on my tippy toes (which would have come in REALLY HANDY regarding something else I'm about to bring up). For no reason whatsoever, I'm going to tell you that this is playing in the background.

About 2 years ago, I got a self inflicted wound on the bottom of the heel of my right foot (accidental). I just got OCD with picking at some skin and it started to bleed. Because of where it is, it's very difficult for it to stop bleeding. I'm constantly walking on it. Anyway, almost 2 years ago, I went to a wound care specialist. Instead of taking care of the small area that was bleeding, he cut "dead skin" which just happened to be the circumference of my heel away. I have pictures from over the years. I would post them, but they are truly graphic. It's called a "Pressure Wound." I'm constantly being told not to put pressure on it. I got a big boot that is on its last leg not to put pressure on it (though I think it still did, and I have a reason that I'll mention later). So, recently, I opted to have a skin graft done on my foot. They took some skin away from my left thigh and used it as a graft for my foot. BEFORE the operation, I was told that I would get 5 days of recuperative care in the hospital, and then 4 weeks of recuperative care in a "REHAB" (nursing home, those of you that know me, know that I was traumatized by them). So I had to deal with that, but I overcame my fear so that this wound would finally get a chance to heal.

AFTER the operation, I was told that no "REHAB" will accept me because I take a medicine known as Suboxone. It's most commonly used to help those addicted to pain killers to get off them. But for me, it is prescribed AS a pain killer. I'm a victim of the Opioid Crisis, but that's a story for another time. So where was I sent? To the one place in the world that my foot would not have a chance to heal. My apartment, where I've been all along. As I said, I think the boot may have actually caused damage. The skin graft came off within two days.

To put it bluntly, my powerchair is my legs at the moment with few exceptions like going to the bathroom, maybe the kitchen once in a while, and to the powerchair itself. I go out to a diner once in a while with my father, so I walk then. Other than that, I don't do "walking." If I have to go somewhere, I use my powerchair. Right now, my powerchair is not working for me (though it may work for someone else). When you become sedentary, it's very hard to just stop the diet you were on when you could walk, so I've gained about 100lbs. The powerchair wasn't made for that weight so every time a battery gets put in, it dies within a few months. My father has already spent a fortune on it.

So right now I'm asking for some more of your generosity to help me get a new Powerchair. The other night, I saw an episode of Frazier where Niles got a Segway (hysterical). I wondered if they made anything. The normal powerchairs you buy from "official" wheelchair outlets go for like $12k. Turns out, Segway and maybe some Segway competition make chairs that seem like they would make a good fit for me for way less. I'm asking for about $5000 to get the chair I think would work.

Yes, I know it's "sporty" but I consider myself lucky for it to be sporty for the cost.

I need this chair for doctor's appointments. And I need to go see my doctors. When I get my new chair, I will donate mine to someone that needs it. If it's in good working condition.

Any help you give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
