Please help me return my brothers eyesight

For over a year now, my younger brother Mike has been gradually losing his eyesight due to Cataracts, which is the clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. Mike has been diagnosed by a professional with having this condition in both his eyes at an advanced stage.

 

Since the end of last year, his situation has deteriorated so much that it is impossible for Mike to do his job as professional cartoonist and semi-pro photographer. But even the most basic daily tasks have become a challenge for Mike: reading emails, seeing his phone, typing, reading a book or even driving his car.

 

The good news is that his eyesight can be restored to normal with surgery and a short recovery period.

The problem is, this surgery is expensive and we as a family can unfortunately not cover it.

With very limited income over the past 2 years due to Covid dilemmas and his decreasing eyesight, Mike does not have the financial resources to fund this surgery himself, as much as he would want to.

 

We, as a family reach out to Mike’s many friends near and far, to help him accumulate the dollars he needs for this life changing surgery.

 

As Mike keeps drumming into me, “It’s not about making people laugh, it’s about making them aware and smile within life. There is a big difference there”.

 

For the benefit of all of us, we have to get him back at the drawing board, pen, and camera.

 

 

Looking at stats, the cataract surgery required generally costs AUD $6000 per eye. We think we can get both eyes done in Brisbane for $7500.

So that’s the plan here.

Although Mike is on the public heath system to have this done for free, the waiting list is 1.5 years! With his condition deteriorating rapidly, Mike needs to be attended to urgently in a private health care setting.

 

Mike and I have a lot of mutual friends (little family). We won’t have to ask for much to make this work. Just a donation of any de-nomination should get us over the line I hope.

Please help me give ‘Poony’ a bright visible new year 2022 so he can return to work and to the things he loves.
