Please Help Me See My Dad George Munroe Before He Dies

Donation protected
Update:

I give my thanks to all who have financially assisted me in my trip to visit my Dad.

I am writing this update now as of the morning of Monday August 19, 2024. I made a very long drive to see my Dad in the memory care facility in Massachusetts. At least 822 miles round trip. I visited my Dad on Wednesday, August 7 and Friday August 9.

I spoke with and interacted with him. From what I can observe and see, Dad has good days and bad days. On the bad days he is very sleepy and completely out of it. On the good days he is somewhat engaged with others and me.

The overall trend is unmistakable now though.

The cheapest hotel I could find in the area was still quite expensive. It was my biggest expense next to gas.

I am holding on to as much of what I have raised so I am ready for the funeral.

I have my go bag packed and ready.

I have a Bible verse that sums up this situation with my Dad:

“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows." Mark 13:32-36.

Below the line is my original post:

Please help me visit my Dad George Munroe one last time before he dies.

This is a photo of my Dad. This picture was taken shortly before he was put into the memory care facility in Danvers, MA. The name of the facility is The Atrium. His name is George Munroe. He is now 91 years old. He will be 92 in early August. He has dementia.

I have not been able to see my Dad since the August of Last year. The reason for this is that I was forced by circumstances to move far away to Rochester, NY.

This means that I now live approximately 411 miles away from where he is.
Round trip that would be approximately 822.

Since I have not seen my Dad in a very long time, I do not know what his exact mental condition is.
This is all the more concerning to because of what happened recently:
My older brother Tom Munroe died on June 2 from Pancreatic Cancer. You can verify this with a simple google search – “Thomas Munroe Lynnfield, MA obituary”.

I do not know if my father understands and is aware of my older brother’s passing.
I would like to comfort him.

The dementia care facility moved my Dad into the hospice section of the facility back in the beginning of March. He does not have much time left.

I miss my Dad very much and want to see him before he dies.
I think Dad is only hanging on since he wants me to see him 1 last time before he passes on.
Very likely shortly after that my Dad will pass away.

Then there will be a funeral. I do not want to miss the funeral.

Since I live so far away from Danvers, MA, there will be 2 round trips – to see Dad one last time while he is still alive and then to attend the funeral.

I would not be able to use my credit cards since I am already maxed out at the credit limit and I have very limited income. It is a very bad idea to use credit cards due to sky high interest rates. I am almost completely broke at the moment.

This is one reason why I live in Rochester, NY in the first place

The expenses would include gas at the service centers on the New York Thruway and the Mass Pike, food at those service centers and staying at the hotel for 1 or 2 nights depending on what happens.

I want to be absolutely sure that I raise enough money so that I am not stranded in Massachusetts without money for a return trip. So there has to be a buffer.

I have calculated the total cost. It would be at the maximum of $2,000.

If you can help me get to see my Dad one last time and then attend his funeral, I would be deeply grateful.

Thank you very much for whatever you can contribute.
