Please Help Mercy & Laura

Donation protected
Hi. This is Laura again. I have been living in a shelter while Mercy is being fostered with love by my friend in New Hampshire. I desperately want to be reunited with Mercy. Rentals are non existent in my price range in RI. Waiting lists for subsidized housing are years long. I am looking for a studio apartment for me and Mercy. Even a house share anywhere in New England would be great. Please feel free to message me on fb for any information you need. Please spread the word if you know of any
rentals or house shares available. If you can donate, the money would be used for security on an apartment. I know many have already donated and I appreciate it beyond words. I need to get back with Mercy. We just need a bed somewhere under a roof. We need to be together. I abundantly thank Charlene for taking such good loving care of my girl. This is my first Christmas alone…truly alone because it’s been me and Mercy the past three years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. (The photo is me and Mercy on FaceTime).

Hi. My name is Laura and I am humbly fundraising for myself and my 12+ year old dog Mercy. Unfortunately due to degenerative Rheumatoid Arthritis I have been unable to work since spring. I was eventually approved for temporary disability in RI, but it took many months and I got behind on rent and was asked to vacate my home of 4 years. It is not considered eviction by the court because my landlord and I agreed with a judge that I vacate on 11/4/23 in lieu of having an eviction on my record. This has left my dog Mercy and myself without a home. Mercy is having some health problems. She needs to get to her vet in Westerly RI. She has very red eyes, is breathing very raspy and heavily and she can no longer hear. She is on prescription allergy meds but they’re not helping the red eyes or breathing. Aside from this we will sometimes need to stay in a pet friendly motel room costing about $70/night. I have constant severe pain and slow to limited mobility. I am working with doctors in RI but there’s only so much that can be done once the joints degenerate. Sleeping in the car on cold nights won’t be a good situation for either of us. I am fortunate that I can sometimes couch surf at my three daughters various spaces, but that option is going to be sporadic. On nights we have no options except the car, I’d feel much safer and relieved to have Mercy and myself in a bed. She is used to sleeping with her back pressed against me and we won’t be able to do that in my little car. Shelters have already started overflowing for the winter although I am on a long waiting list. I know there are worse situations in the country and the world right now. In our little spot of the world this is a very difficult situation, albeit temporary (I hope). I am in need for gas money because I feel safer in CT where my kids are closer but also have to travel to different parts of RI for social services, my doctors and Mercys vet. Gas money, food money (although I am good at stretching a food dollar), an occasional motel room, Mercys meds for her allergies and anything else the vet may put her on. She’s my main concern because she’s my child. Anyone with a beloved animal in their life knows how strong that bond is. It may come to where I need her fostered or in the Westerly shelter but due to her advanced age (she’ll be 13 in February), I’m trying to avoid that. She can’t hear me say her name anymore but she still is aware of my presence constantly. I am praying that this situation is very temporary but there are many unknowns. I am working hard to find us a permanent home with the help of social services. If anyone can help no matter how ‘small’, I promise it is huge to us. I promise we would be grateful for any help. I also promise to pay it forward if we are ever in the position to do so. Thank you so very much for any help, even kind thoughts or prayers sent our way.
