My special needs fur kids are my life.

Hi, my name is Kristine. I’m a disabled Veteran.I was an officer and a member of the Navy Nurse Corps. I was also recently diagnosed with MS. I have 6 special needs fur kids and they are my life. I keep going because of them. Please help me continue to provide the prescription medication, prescription foods, and ongoing veterinary care they require. I can not afford it on my own anymore. Their care, if none of them need to see the vet because they’re having trouble, costs over 1,500.00 a month. Please help me to keep caring for them.

I got hurt in Iraq several years ago. I was dropped in with sever others to stabilize some Marines. They saw us and bombed us. I was thrown 12-plus feet. I broke my neck, sustained a serious TBI, broke my leg, and injured some discs in my back. Due to my injuries, I no longer have the use of my lower right leg, I have trouble with seizures, and I have PTSD with anxiety and depression. My special needs fur kids help me get through every day.

CC is one of my special needs fur kids. He’s the picture of this fundraiser. CC needs the most care. CC’s meds, prescription foods, Care Club Dental payment, and respiratory litter cost over 800.00 a month. CC has immune-mediated asthma, chronic bronchitis, a chronic resistant pseudomonas infection in his nasal bones, and reabsorption lesions in his teeth from having a serious strain of Calicivirus as a kitten. CC and Jackie were adopted from a rescue in Texas as 3-month-old kittens. They were transported to me by a transport company that was supposed to make sure they were healthy before transporting them to me. They had a health certificate that said they weren’t healthy but they were transported anyway. They were both very sick when they arrived. This was 8 years ago. I spent over 100,000.00 finding out what was wrong with CC and Jackie and on diagnosing another one of my special needs fur sons, Echo.

I was given the option by the rescue that sent CC and Jackie to return them so that they could put them to sleep. I couldn’t do that. They needed help so I got them the help they needed.

Echo has a traumatic brain injury from getting bitten by a dog in the head when he was a 5-week-old kitten in a foster home through a rescue. Echo has an autoimmune disorder that affects his eyes, seizures, and some trouble that requires him to be on prescription food.

I have all 6 of these special needs fur kids because the rescues or shelters that had them either didn’t want to pay for the diagnostic tests required to figure out what was wrong and treat it and would have put them to sleep instead or, as is the case with Boo and Bear, the rescues they came from refused to provide Veterinary care to kittens in foster care through them. Boo and Bear were kittens from what was the largest fire in California history, the Campfire. I was fostering them through a rescue set up to serve fire kittens. They were 5 weeks old and they were dying. I pleaded with the rescue to get them Veterinary care. They said that any vet would just put kittens that were sick down. I knew this wasn’t true. I finally took them to my vet. They were hospitalized in isolation for several days and given antibiotics, and all kinds of supportive care. They had a 10% chance of survival when they went into the hospital. They were diagnosed with panleukopenia, feline coronavirus, coccidia, and worms. They also had Calici Virus. They both still have intestinal issues as a result of these illnesses. Boo also has trouble with reabsorption lessons in his teeth as a result of the Cali virus and requires a dental every year and needs to have teeth pulled as they get reabsorption lessons just like CC. Both Boo and Bear require a limited ingredient diet because of the intestinal issues they have as a result of being so ill.

when Boo and Bear were ready to leave the hospital, the rescue that I was fostering them through had been closed down because of all the kittens that died there and other issues, so I took them home and kept them. I also paid the huge vet bill for taking them to my vet's office to save their lives.

Spike is my last special needs fur son. Spike came to me from a local SPCA. Spike had ringworm, an upper respiratory infection that turned out to be Calici Virus, and a broken leg. I took Spike and got him better because he was also a kitten that was going to be put to sleep if I said no. Spike was a feral kitten, he has some behavioral issues and he has a megaesophagus so he is on a special diet that helps him with that.

I love each of my fur sons so much. They are what makes life worth living. I have gone through my life savings to diagnose and help them. I have also run up all my credit cards to the point that I can’t make all the payments. I have asked every resource I could find for help with the financial cost of caring for them. I truly need your help to continue caring for them. If I stop their care, they will suffer and have to be put to sleep. I love them and they are my life.
