Please Help My Mom Christine Sass Fight Cancer
Hi my name is Lita and I am creating this fundraiser for my very brave mother Christine Sass to try and battle a recent cancer diagnosis.
Late May 2021 she found a large mass in her left breast but didn't think much of it. She went to have a normal gynecologist exam and when they also did the breast exam she told them about it and asked if it was concerning or not. The doctor immediately scheduled her to have a biopsy. Our family wasn't alarmed just yet since a recent mammogram report showed she was fine but we learned some cancers camouflage as your regular cells making them undetected by a mammogram.
My mom then went in for her biopsy on June 2nd 2021 hoping it would clear any cancer fears but thats really when her world changed... on June 4th 2021 arpund 5 pm Christine got an email from her patient portal with the biopsy results. It was then IN PRINT we learned she was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and was HER2 positive.... an extremely aggressive cancer. My stepfather and I tried to cheer her up as much as possible over the weekend until she could call her doctor once they opened on Monday since she found this news out in an email.
After what seemed like a never ending weekend with no answers Monday morning at 9:08am the radiologist called confirming the diagnosis and informed her she was now automatically registered in the American Cancer Society. He didn't have more guidance so my mom at a loss of words, she was in prayer all weekend in hopes she misread the diagnosis. She ask him what do I do now? He said to make an appointment immediately with a surgeon and an oncologist. Our entire family researched for doctors but the issue was my mom didn't have insurance. She last minute got an insurance now but we found out does not cover certain treatments or even a plastic surgeon. After her husband being in a car accident on sunrise highway in May and myself her daughter in a bad accident last year our family is struggling a bit helping each other with all these recent situations that seem nothing short of a black cloud over the family.
Next week of July She will start her first chemo treatment. These will be every 3 weeks for 6 weeks and 2 different types of Chemos as well as 4 medications. The predicted final treatment is in November/December and in December she will have a lumpectomy.
Her Treatment Plan:
Chemo: 1 day(4 different chemos) every 3 weeks (total of 6 treatments)
Surgery: A lumpectomy in hopes thats the minimum she can do. An incision is made on your chest wall angled towards your armpit. The edges of the incision are pulled together, creating a thin incision across your chest wall. During your surgery 1 to 2 drainage tubes will be placed under your arm. These tubes are called hemovacs and are used to prevent fluid build up. Once healed, the chest area will be flat where your breast tissue was removed.
Radiation: The next step after the lumpectomy to assure the aggressive cancer doesn't attempt to come back and spread.. Monday through Friday, 5 days per week for 6 weeks. Necessary because of irregular lymph nodes under my right arm & on my breast bone. Radiation therapy is necessary to kill cancer cells that might remain & reduce the risk that the cancer may recur in the remaining tissues of the chest wall or lymph nodes.
Lastly,
Reconstructive surgery which we do not have a date yet as we cannot find a surgeon who takes her insurance which is a big factor why I am asking for any type of help here.
I am forever grateful for whatever contribution you may have to offer. Thank you to each and every one of you for supporting my mom through this scary time.
While any and all financial donations are greatly appreciated, support given by way of thoughts, prayers, and good vibes are also welcome and highly encouraged during this hard time ❤
