Please help my mother the puppy mill buster!

Hi, my name is Matthew Reid, and I hope to help out my mother, Linda, who unfortunately fell victim to a horrific puppy breeder.

Mum bought a Cocker Spaniel puppy a few weeks ago and named him Jett. She bonded very quickly, but sadly, within just 48 hours, it became apparent that the puppy was ill, and tragically Jett died on Thursday 16th June 2022. My mother is now stuck with vet bills, no puppy, and a broken heart.

This is such a tragic irony as mum was instrumental in the prosecuting of two other breeders just the week before all of this. It's a VERY convoluted story, but ultimately she camped with us at a breeders place for over 10 hours to prove that puppies had been left uncared for. The local authorities were contacted, and thanks to that persistence, over 40 dogs were rescued, and two uncaring breeders lost their licenses. Some further details can be found in these articles;

Mum bought Jett from a breeder in Lancaster and fell in love immediately. Unfortunately, the breeder lied about virtually everything, and even edited the original listing to try and cover her tracks. Luckily mum had the original listing still available on her phone, and we can prove that vital details were hastily removed immediately after mum informed the seller that the puppy was ill.

Personal research since then has resulted in us discovering that the seller used a fake alias, and they are actually someone who had already been charged with "the unlicensed sale of animals as pets, as well as the unlawful sale of pets, under unfair trading regulations.". They pleaded guilty to those charges, and are currently disqualified from dealing in dogs.

Our family has been in contact with the Lancashire dog warden, and we are hoping that some kind of justice will prevail. Unsurprisingly, the breeder is no longer replying to any form of contact from us, and we doubt any recourse is likely to result in anything for mum.

Mum did everything she could for the puppy, but has sadly been left with just a large bill. We have a report from the vet confirming that the puppy died from Parvovirus and that it must have been infected prior to mum collecting the puppy due to the very short time it was with her.

I am really hoping people have it in their hearts to help mum feel whole again. The whole ordeal has devastated her, and she is dumbfounded that people can be so callous and cruel to animals. I've never seen her quite so broken, and I would like to restore her faith in humanity, and show that caring people do exist.

Mum's had Cocker Spaniels for over 20 years. Her previous one, Jasper, was an amazing soul who peacefully passed away of old age early last year. Mum didn't want to replace him as he was so dearly loved by the whole family. Over the past few months she's mentioned "missing the company in the evening and at the weekend" and that she felt she was now "ready". Jett filled that whole perfectly in the short time he was with her, but unfortunately, it wasn't to last.

We like to cover what was paid for Jett, and the vet bills so that they are not a burden to mum. Mum isn't in a rush, but we'd really like the funds to be there for her to hopefully look for another puppy when she feels ready again. Any additional funds would go towards puppy care/essentials, and would ensure the puppy is as (responsibly) spoilt as possible.
