My name is Rita Hoffman. I am seeking help on behalf of my neighbor, Crystal. She is a hard-working, single mom of nine kids. Early in 2024, she suffered some serious health issues that caused her to be unable to work. She still hasn't been able physically to go back to work yet. Because of this, she was unable to pay her property taxes last year, and the house was sold to the county for non-payment of taxes.

I have spoken with the tax office, and the redemption amount needed is $1897.41 in order for Crystal and the kids to be able to keep the house. As the beneficiary for this fundraiser, I will be calling myself and paying the bill on Crystal's behalf with the funds that are raised.

Crystal did not work enough last year to qualify for a tax refund,( which I verified via a phone call with a tax preparer from TurboTax that there is a $2,500 minimum income requirement to claim the child tax credit) and all of the community agencies I reached out to are currently unable to help her.

She is a great mom who fought for years to keep her niece and nephews out of the system, and now has custody. She has always been willing to do whatever it takes to provide for her kids, but this last year has presented her with insurmountable challenges.
